Merci.

I thank again and for featuring one of my pieces.
And all people who have an interested in it, who gave favorites, comments, watch, who add a tour of my galleries.
I try to thank individually the more I can but I cannot all, and it is probably unfair that I also spend a few minutes to answer people that are rude to the admins or to me instead of visiting interesting people.
But I try to answer also a few questions for those who ask genuinely about a shot that appears unusual to them.
Of course not, the blurr here is not accidental. It is just another visual technique. As legitimate in my opinion as use of DOF, use of balance and unbalance, use of colors or lack or it, of constrast. Others use it as well, I use it frequently, see my "trees" folder.
This is a shot on the verge of abstraction. A thing made of information, pixels, light, a visual objet. It can evocate thoughts in your mind, but it is not a lady with a vantail, nor a pipe . It is, merely, a visual something.
Abstraction means "removing". So the movement is a way to remove details that are distracting, to convey what is important in my eyes.
The deep reddish color of the vest and the golden background , the nervous movement of the hand with vantail and the energetic movement of the walking silhouette. And the large part of the void, that is something very important for me in my way to compose.
The play is something very well known in French culture, I will not resume it but let's say that it is about love missing its object because of delusions about appearance.
I wanted to make a big series about the reharshings, trying to catch both the amateur actors in their way of working and the spirit of the play.
Due to circumstances, I had only two shots that I liked enough on those I took. It would probably have been easier to understand within a series because I am a serialist.

I dont care to look at profile if people are not at last, articulate and polite.
I do look and try to answer by best to negative comments and questions if I think they are genuine sincerity.
Cannot please everyone on earth (and in fact : I will hate that).

A quick look shows an adept of violent rubbish. Perhaps style neo-nazi. He has a grudge against the world.

I am a very openmind person and although I'm not a photographer I'm a fan of all visual art, but like some others.. I still can't find why this is "so deep, fantastic and interesting "
Why? just because of the fact that the picture is so darned blurred you HAVE TO imagine what's happening ( because you obviously can't tell apart even a single thing)
what did the artist want to convey with this?

It's wonderful when a work of art leads you to imagine... of course we HAVE TO image, that's the great thing !

Namh In reply to FiLH [2011-12-05 12:04:25 +0000 UTC]
yep it's wonderful when a work leads you do that, but is awful when a work FORCES you to do that.. in my opinion, the work itself, must guide you to the feeling, otherwise, is a failure..

This kind of work does not forces me into anything... on the opposite it invites me do a nice set of thoughts and visions...
So maybe... it is not a question of the work but of the viewer.
On my side, there are things that don't speak to me.
So why to put do's and don'ts on art ? Why this need of putting our own rules as universal rules ? You like to have more obvious things to see in a work of art, some don't need that.. there is room for everybody.

Namh In reply to FiLH [2011-12-05 21:25:43 +0000 UTC]
I don't try to put "do's and don'ts" or my rules or anything... I just want to know what did the artist want to say with this?..
the picture doesn't bring you any feeling/message/idea (which actually the reason of every single art piece)in any way..

FiLH In reply to Namh [2011-12-06 07:35:50 +0000 UTC]
In fact you did put a don't : you say a work do not have to force the imagination... this quite a strong « don't » !
This picture does bring me feeling/ideas.... maybe not you... but not everything is ok for everybody.
Your own work does not interest me : it does not bring me any feeling ( except maybe that you are an anime /manga fan). But I don't conclude it's a bad work.
It's just a work that does not interest me. I guess it does interest people...
Do you see the difference ? I don't say your work should be that or that...

I hate when I'm trying the people to illustrate me and make my criteria wider and maybe even change my mind.... and then you came out with this bullshit.
that's why this kind of photography (and photographers) are not taken seriously..

Namh In reply to StephanePellennec [2011-12-05 21:17:11 +0000 UTC]
of course I accept it, but in this case, I just can't find any thing that makes the picture "deep.. fantastic and interesting"... the photo doesn't transmit anything to me.. that's the reason why I (and some others) want to know.. what do you see?..
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
StephanePellennec In reply to Namh [2011-12-05 22:26:27 +0000 UTC]
It may not transmit anything to you and I don't think it should be a problem.
Here, it's not about what I see but what I feel in front of the image (if it's blurred, it is not for showing appearances). The title comes from the french theater play: Cyrano, the shot is one of the scene of the play: Roxanne in love. Here I feel some light spontaneous move, the lightness of being maybe? But in the same time the wait of an answer...
I feel that those works which put imagination to move, give to the viewer the possibility to travel inside the image, if they want and feel like this and I really enjoy this.

Thank you.
I think yes, this would have worked better (as understanding goes) if I had managed to get the whole series in context, as was my first intention.
Same time, it is an illustration (that is some of my own conviction) that each thing has cultural context as well as personnal context for interpretation.
My own delusion was probably that the nervous but confident movement of this frail woman into the golden haze of love -and delusion-, into the void that occupies the right part and beyond, was self explanatory.
BTW I see it now how hasard made me a gift : I had to sacrifies the bottom part, removing the real pretty movement of the white dress, because the floor was too ugly.
The dress would have been graceful but distracting; with this cut, she is loosing her grounding, she flies (and I know the play so she will fell later).

There are always ways to get farer, better, more perfect...
I like this one in itself, for what it brings to my imagination but maybe it is not what you were trying to express, I don't know.
I personally try to let my works to live in people's mind, I enjoy it.

I like that, too. Once done the work live its life, that is not mine to control.
But I am a serialist, and this is a part of a series that failed as a series.
