Description Well, one day I was bored at school and really wanted to draw something awesome. My mind sort of wandered as I drew the skeleton and the basic body shape until I thought, "Hey, I should totally do a costume design for Uglies!" My pencil fluttered across the page as I created my own version of the society that Scott Westerfeld portrayed in his novels. I eventually finished and decided that it was high time to color it in. But, I didn't want to pull out my gel pens and ruin the drawing with a bad color choice or a line in the wrong place. I thought that maybe making some photocopies would help ease my worry by giving me a second chance, but then I stumbled upon a digital imaging program that I didn't even know I had. Being naturally curious, I started playing around with the freepaint brushes and diffused glowing until, after many tedious hours, my creation was complete. Of course, this probably is not exactly what everyone would have imagined when they were reading the novel, but there are actual many practical reasons as to why I designed it this way. My design is for when Tally is traveling to the Smoke so, since she is traveling at high speeds, her clothes need to be tight to create as little drag as possible. Note that I did not forget about her homing device necklace. My color choices were more along the lines of disguising her as she sped along the tracks on her hoverboard. I believe that I read somewhere that this story takes place around Northern California so I matched to colors with more of a cloudy sky and the green foliage of that area. Also, the bands on her upper arms and boots are representative of the bands on a Marine's uniform hinting at her future in Crim13. The bands on her forearms, though, were originally a break between the sleeves and the gloves, but because my sister pointed out that the forearms are one of the few places that you should really keep protected, I decided to make it where the crash bracelets are. Lastly, please forgive my for not showing the belly button sensor thing for the hoverboard. My attempts to adjust the design to show that were making the look unproportional and tacky, but I did have that zipper set up for that reason. In the end, I must say that this has been my most involved work to date, and I am certainly planning on designing more for Tally as she goes through her Pretty and Special stages.
