basically, the special soul mode is made to confuse you, as you enter the box with Chara's soul also there, and you are fighting, it's basically impossible to hit Chara in this mode, as they will always parr your attacks, your job is to parry their attack as well as dodge some of them.

Also in this it's kind of a Kris situation where you the living being are controlling Frisk, Chara tries to free Frisk but they need to kill them time and time again to torture the person playing. The reason why Chara doesn't reset and can't is because when they first fell down, they were also controlled by someone (Storyshift Red moment!??!) but they've grown free from it, but that also means giving up on resetting.
