Description spotted this Japanese beauty while i was riding my bike yesterday afternoon and the first thing that drew my attention was the color itself. that Orange looked so right on these "Peanut" Corollas asides the chrome Corolla AE85 SR5 wheels. this is a 1977 Corolla 2 door sedan with the Toyoglide 2 speed automatic (quite a rare sight too, since most of the ones i've seen had 5 speed manuals). the Toyoglide was basically a Chevrolet Powerglide transmission which Toyota built under license back when they made the first 3 generations of it.

it ends up the owner is the ex husband of my elementary school teacher, who we knew personally as well since my brother's friends with him( not to mention sold us his KP61 in May 1999 after he lost his 4th gen Corolla wagon in a car accident).

this was bar none one of the cleanest looking 3rd gen Corollas i've ever seen and its for sale. the asking price is 4,800$, not sure if i would buy one for that price though but i believe its a reasonable price.

High price, but worth it. The market sets the price after all...

Very nice car... I liked the SR5 liftbacks myself since they were the only shooting brake in the US (Corvette and Cadillac conversions notwithstanding) after Volvo quit making the 1800ES and Jensen went out of business. You can tell that I'm a car geek by me referring to wagon-like hatchbacks as "shooting brakes" like Top Gear and Jalopnik!

you know, its the first time i ever hear of someone referring the 3rd gen lift back Corolla as a shooting brake. oddly enough, they also made a 3 door wagon of that gen as well asides the 5 door one.

Cool... the 3rd-gen liftback Corolla does fit the description of a shooting brake...

indeed, not a hint of rust at all. although interior wise, the headliner needed a new layer of vinyl.

oh my lord, those hardtop SR's are possibly the rarest of the 30 series Corollas asides the liftback late 70's model. i've actually seen one and it was quite beat up, it was also the infamous SR5 model.

It seems a fair price for a model that appears to be very well-cared

If Corollas were sold since the beginning here, this one would probably be priced at around $10-15,000...

Mister-Lou In reply to Roddy1990 [2012-05-03 03:40:47 +0000 UTC]

that would've been ridiculous, although i've seen a few that were fully restores cost near 10,000 US.
