Description This is the beginning of a personal project of mine taking place within the Warhammer 40k universe post Cicatrix Maledictum and the fall of the Cadian gate. I will being putting my best effort into this project so I would absolutely appreciate any positive/negative feedback from readers. Also if you see I've misused some term or phrase from the Warhammer Universe PLEASE bring it to my attention so I can correct it. I sincerely hope you enjoy and in the future I will be working with the Artist Martechi as he has graciously given me permission to use his fantastic designs to illustrate this project.

The various hums and whines of countless ancient systems that had not ceased their function since their consecration with the spirits that inhabit them millennia ago. The Virtuous Pursuit had served the Petrovna Family faithfully ever since. Tech adepts mill about at lecterns and conduits with their mechadendrites pecking and tuning things that would be out of reach to any unmodified man. Their screeching antediluvian tongue communicates the most meager instructions to their fellows at inconceivable speed and clarity. Various servo-skulls buzzed around the Adepts holding arcane tools of the Machine God or carrying Incense for the blessed sacrament of the Omnissiah and all his blessed automated children. A man stands behind them, simply overviewing their progress towards their task. A much younger woman, barely through her adolescence, stood a few paces behind him. “One must always know the minutest detail in the workings of their ship Elitza.” His voice was low and stern, yet not without a tone one would expect from a teacher addressing his up and coming pupil. He maintained an air of unmatched focus and quickly noted something on his personal dataslate before returning it to a pocket within his overcoat. “Each man and woman upon our vessel depend on us to be in the know of which areas need attention. We depend on them as much as they depend on us. This is the responsibility and burden of command.” He turned allowing a full view of his face. Short black hair topped his head and connected to his manicured beard by thin sideburns. He furrowed his brow as he looked down to Elitza, juvenant treatments had taken well as he looked no older than a man in his early adulthood. “Please remember this, as my daughter you will take my place as Head of our House.” Before she could answer a uniformed man came beside her father. “Lord Ganev Petrovna.”
Obliviously annoyed he turned towards the officer. “What is it?” The voidman’s expression turned apologetic as he realized he had interrupted. “Apologies my Lord but we are to enter the warp soon, and Navigator Teodora has requested your presence before we set off.” His gaze shifted to Lady Elitza. “This could prove to be quite the learning experience to Lady Elitza would it not sire?” Ganev let out a heavy sigh as he nodded and strode off towards the Navigators chambers. Elitza turned to the tech adepts and smiled as she hurried to keep up with her father.
The room was incredibly opulent, even for a navigator. A woman of a meager stature yet one brimming with such pride she seemed to permanently look down on everything. She wore a silken dress, made of a deep red fiber that gave it almost a gemstone’s shine. A single headband with the sigil of the Navis Nobilite hid away her ocular aberrancy from the crew, yet all aboard knew that beneath that cloth was what allowed the ships safe passage through the warp. “Something is amiss Ganev.” Officer Grigori winced upon hearing his Lord addressed in such a simple fashion. “I know not of what it is but I think it risky to brave the tides of the immaterium.” Lord Petrovna sat up straighter. “Madame Du Chanette, you have braved countless warp tides before. Even steered us through quite a few warp storms and we’ve come out alright. What could possibly give a person of your skill such worry.” Her face contorted in a mixture of shock and repulse.
“I do not worry Ganev. I see thing that would turn half you fleet into gibberish fools and the other half to death.”
“And yet here we are. About to embark into the unknown stars and you’ve come down with the shakes? You disappoint me Krista.”
        “How dare you!”
“Well if you’ve found yourself too feeble for the task I shall respect that and simply find someone else to...”
The sound of an open hand slapping against skin reverberates around the room. Grigori’s mouth is wide open in a state of shock and Elitza stifles an overdramatized gasp. A tense few minutes pass between Lord Petrovna and his Navigator before they both grin and share a chuckle.
“You know I hate it when you do that right?”
“Yes I know.” He says as he rubs the now reddening hand print on his cheek. “But it appears to be the only sure way to break you out of a bad mood.” Seriousness returns to his eyes. “Krista, will you do it?”
She ponders a bit on the subject before letting out a defeated sigh and slumping back into her posh sofa. “Fine. I just wanted you to know of the risks.”
Ganev stands triumphantly. “Noted. How soon can you be ready?”
        “Within the hour.”
“I’ll hold you to that then.” He turns to Officer Grigori
        “Shall we get underway?”
