Description What I find increasingly obvious and irritating is the fact that a lot of people, even (or especially) here on deviantArt, forget that when they argue and say mean, nasty stuff to someone via the internet, there is actually a human being on the other end of that computer. When we say hurtful stuff to each other, we almost lose sight of the fact that we are not arguing with an emotionless textbox.

So everytime I get into political arguments, eventually one of us goes for the jugular. And I always think to myself, "I bet you wouldn't say that to my face." And most likely, they wouldn't. Being mean over the internet is so easy because the consequences are very minimal. What? You get banned from the website if you say something nasty? However, in real life, you just might lose a couple of teeth.

One huge reason I'm increasingly starting to hate the internet is the fact that it makes spreading hate and ignorance so much easier. And it works on both sides, ladies and gentlemen. If doesn't matter if you are a white supremisist, a black panther, a religious fundamentalist, or a bitter atheist. Anyone has the capacity to be a jackass over the internet.

My advice to everyone? Do not say something to someone over the internet that you wouldn't be confident enough to say to their face.

Now a plz account, thanks to ~Daimanius !

That's a nice way of advising people not to say "mean" things on the internet.

But realistically, there's less than one percent chance the two would actually meet in real life and cause violence to each other. Therefore, there's no point in worrying.Β

As long as I'm following the rules of deviantART and obeying the law, haters are gonna hate the stuff I'm allowed to say.

I actually would! I'm pretty insensitive and not afraid to say what I believe I only refrain from saying certain things because people would probably "cry" (not that I really care) or ground me. I've seen the patterns...people are so sensitive. Don't they know I'm joking? D:

I totally could agree more. And it's the sad truth too. They DO disregard the fact there is another human being on the other side of that computer screen. I can't tell you how many times I've seen so many nasty comments to others, usually on YouTube or DeviantArt. ...Then again, DeviantArt really wasn't as bad before as it is now. I've seen cyber-bullies telling others to die quite a lot lately.

It's really sad. I commend you for making this stamp.

I truthfully only type as if I was talking to the person face to face. But I do have a problem with you stating Black Panther as a hate group. The Black Panthers weren't racists.(atleast most weren't) The original Black Panthers of the 60's and 70's reached out to all racial groups for help and encouragement. And yes all races of people were part of the original Black Panthers.

The NEW Black Panther Party is the one thats racist. Not the original. But still nice stamp.

My gosh, I've been looking for a stamp like this! it's so true. People who say threats, insults over the internet hide behind their computer screen, typing away and thinking they're safe in their mom's house are humoring. They wouldn't dare mutter the words they speak to actual people's faces without risking their face. Thanks for sharing your stamp with the community.

Not only do I agree whole-heartily, but I applaud you for putting it in such perfect words. "it makes spreading hate and ignorance so much easier..."
Exactly. If only more people were aware of that and there actions. Sadly though, I don't see it changing for the better, only getting worse :/...

It totally depends on the opponent I would say.

Some are worth a real discussion.
With some you can discuss with rage on equal levels and you feel it's fine for the other too.
And some are ridiculous, in their statement and their language therefore replying is denied at all.

It's not I go insult people with strong language, but if they show their opinion and I am shocked by it I might ask back - and a discussion starts.

Still, it's very true that one should not say things one wouldn't dare to say in real life.

Exactly what I was thinking. Half of the foul-mouthed jerks on the web are simply abusing the lack of punishment to make themselves sound intimidating.

Wow, so you can talk shit to some random 12 year-old kid on the interwebs. How amazing. You must feel so proud right now to know that you don't have the guts to say crap like that to someone in your own age group, let alone in real life.

Why can't they just stop trying to be tough and just keep their mouths shut? You'll feel like a better person if you're nice to people.

(Whoo, um, sorry for the long comment... )

I'm one for freedom of speech, but I really thing the Internet should have the "No Asshole Rule" (kind of what the Wrestlecrap Forums has.) I'm thinking if someone on the net acts like an asshole, his/her IP address could be suspended. But that's just wishful thinking though.

Didn't people forget what John Lennon said? "All you need is love."

Most people pull that simply because they have anonymity. For example, several months ago I was called a 'stupid cunt' on YouTube (yeah, I know) for defending the Pope. That exchange probably wouldn't have happened IRL as the idiot I was arguing with wouldn't have time to react with such a clever insult.

I'd be too busy hitting him...with facts.

I find it funny, to be honest, when I encounter a troll or art thief on here and I find them raging at me, shouting copious amounts of swear words, death wishes, and spamming caps lock rage. It`s obvious they wouldn`t say any of it to my face, or to anyone else`s, for that matter. What`s pretty ironic is when I give them a taste of their own medicine (albeit in a far more mature choice of words), they usually stop replying to me.

Stamp favorited (though I can`t use it yet, of all the buggery).

Usually with me trolls/flamers fall in two categories coward/jerkass

Coward-if they're blasting me on the internet and wouldn't have the audacity to say that to my face then they're a coward.

Jerkass-if they blast me , wish death on me and tell me I should jump off a cliff and it turns out they treat people in real life like that. then they're just an antisocial jerkass.

Either way I don't take trolls seriously.

But good stamp. I wish more people would think about that.
