Description Drawing Doppler has become something of a habit now. Whenever I feel like relaxing and sketching an easy character, I choose this guy.

The glasses? Eh. I don't know what the heck happened there. I was playing around with Photoshop and accidentally colored over the glasses in the first layer instead of the second, which I don't normally do. Oddly enough, it created kind of a shiny effect, which is what I would like to have gone for in the first place, so I went over the green in the first layer with another color in the second layer and then blurred it. I'm not sure if I like the result or not, but I'm still getting used to coloring in Photoshop... and I'm a complete amateur when it comes to coloring in the first place, sooo... there ya' have it.

Edit: Man, the position of his arm/hand is really buggin' me. I should have moved it further to the left....

Wow this is extremly good! I feel like you have captured the essense of his character perfectly!!!!!!!! I love the style and the background used - it is amazing!!!!!its good that you havnt overwhelmed teh drawing with too muc colour like people often do, but you still have enough to bring the sketch to life! The way you have mapped everything out if perfect and amkes the draiwng look easy so well done!! You are very talented and your work should have more comments! The bold outline aso doesnt taken anything away and you have used a really good shading technique as well! Fantastci job! I can't give any points of improvement!

Hello there,

First of all, thank you so much for the kind comments! I'm flattered that you like the drawing that much. *blushes*

Secondly, I debated for quite a while whether or not to display this critique, because I feel that the drawing/I is/am undeserving of so many compliments. I literally copied a screenshot when doing this, and a very notable error can be seen (that being the arm being placed way too far off to one side). However, I posted up the critique anyway because I do appreciate what you said, so thanks!

Yeah, there isn't much Doppler fan art out there, which is a shame because he's a cool character!

And thanks!

I love how you draw this guy! So expressive!

I like the shininess on the glasses too, but it does seem to stand out a little bit. You might try making it a little more subtle by knocking down the opacity, if it's on a separate layer like you say.

Keep up the good work!

Ha-ha. Thanks!

"You might try making it a little more subtle by knocking down the opacity, if it's on a separate layer like you say."

Hey, yeah! That's a good idea. I didn't think of that. Thanks for the tip! I'll try that next time.

No problem! Happy to help when I get a good idea. Photoshop is great for layers and opacity and that sort of thing.

Btw, just out of curiosity, what version of Photoshop are you using?

You're most welcome!

Mitch-el In reply to EternallyOptimistic [2010-01-15 23:12:16 +0000 UTC]

Most definitely!

I'm using my dad's Photoshop program, which is Photoshop CS2. I've played with CS4 before (at least, I think it was the fourth one), but I like the second version more... probably because I'm used to the placement of the tools and such in CS2.

No way! I still use CS2 myself!
I can't stand CS4, it's too inflexible imho.

Woot! I enjoy more Doppler (mainly because I think TP is under-appreciated, and I'll take what I can get, haha) and you just draw him so well. Seriouly. Don't sweat the color. I'm planning on doing some digital color on my Gargoyles pics, so I'm sure mine will be WAY worse.

Mitch-el In reply to lvl27-Cubone [2010-01-15 17:00:06 +0000 UTC]

Ha-ha! Thanks, dude!

I probably should try drawing the other characters, particularly Captain Amelia and John Silver ('cause I know you like the latter). I've tried, but Amelia is really difficult for me to draw, for some reason, and I'm not crazy about sketching Silver. Heheh. I should give it another go, though....

Yeah, I need to experiment with color more. As for you, I'm sure your digitally colored pictures will turn out a lot better than you think!
