Adam Young - musician, dreamer, genius...

The creator of such projects as Sky Sailing, Port Blue, and, of course, Owl City, Adam Young has shown him to be a very talented Christian artist in the industry... and one of my favorite musical artists of all time. His works speak to me on a very deep level -- my thought process is practically mirrored in the lyrics of his songs. One of these days I hope to shake his hand and tell him how his music has inspired me, motivated me, and even brought me a little bit closer to God....

The drawing itself took me about... five to six hours in total to compose. I'm pleased with the shading. The proportions? Eh.... There are a lot of things wrong with it proportionally and anatomically. The head isn't tilted back far enough, the shape of the skull is incorrect, the head itself is a bit too large, the length of the arms do not match up (the right arm is too short, I believe), the guitar could have been more carefully drawn and rendered, and I completely botched up the right side of the drawing by making the left side of his shirt/sleeve way too dark. Other inconsistencies can be found, including the eye socket placement and "depth", but, for the most part, I'm... fairly pleased with the drawing. The shading came out all right, in any case, except for that very dark right side of course....

My thanks go out to my mom and to my friend, Chris, for pointing out the errors and giving me some good advice on what to watch out for. A huge artistic fault of mine is constantly delving into detail before making sure that the proportions of what I'm sketching are correct, when it should be the other way around. You live and you learn!

The shirt is very well-done. The hair looks great. The microphone and stand are pretty amazing. But the guitar/violin...well, can't tell which...that's the only thing I can see that's off. It's either too small or just not a guitar.

But the face looks good and the overall tone is pretty good. I am very impressed and excited to see what you have coming up next! You are an amazing artist. Keep up the good work! Don't get too stressed, have fun with your work, and be consistent in your practice. Don't be too judgmental of your own work, but be open to criticism.

Have a good year in life and art!

Thank you so very much for the critique! It's something I don't get enough of, so every little bit of advice is sincerely appreciated.

The instrument is a guitar, and yes, you're right in that the size of it is too small. Also, I didn't spend that much time rendering it, which makes the job on that look sloppy. There are also quite a few things wrong with the overall drawing from a proportional standpoint, which I definitely need to watch out for.

Once again, thank you so much for your comments, critique, and well wishes! Have a wonderful day, week, and new year!!

Proportionately, the drawing might be off in comparison to the source picture, but it holds itself well as a stand-alone piece.

Yeah, there are definitely errors, which I'll have to watch out for in the future.

Thank you very much!
