Description This is Gurdy from Final Fantasy XII. What was going to be a semi-detailed sketch turned into something of a project. This is what happens when I get too involved in my drawings. I just get too much enjoyment out of doing detail!

Moogles are characters that I've come to really like, and, so far, Gurdy is my favorite. This screenshot was used as a reference when drawing her: [link]

Estimated time: Unknown. I took frequent breaks while drawing this; however, I imagine that it took anywhere from one to two hours to complete.

P.S. On a completely unrelated note, I always saw the Moogle term "kupo" as their word for "kid" or "boy", but perhaps that's just because it made more sense when I was playing as Vaan. Heh.

Branching off of this, Moogles always looked like rabbits to me, and I've got it set in my mind that if I ever end up owning a bunny... his name is going to be "Kupo".

I'm not all that familiar with Final Fantasy and its world, but judging from the reference image you used of Gurdy, you did an excellent job portraying her in your own style! It was too nice of a drawing not to give a healthy critique on.

I haven't done this in a while, so bear with me. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/a/a… " width="19" height="19" alt="" title="Sweating a little..."/>

First of all, may I say that the rendering of the clothing is fantastic. Absolutely stunning. I literally sat in front of my computer staring at the clothing alone for a good five minutes straight - no exaggeration. Again, even though this was referenced using an image from the game, you have a great handle on how clothes should fold and the physics involved. The reason I say that is because despite using a screenshot, you managed to keep the material looking natural and loose, as it should be.

The shading also should be noted - I'm in awe! I love how you use several different shading techniques all in one piece... it gives the whole thing a nice, stylized look and is very pleasing to the eye. The use of both crosshatching and smudging really stands out to me. Man, I wish I had the patience to shade as nicely as you do!

Another thing I really want to point out is how you infused your own style into the piece. I can't tell you enough how much I love your style! Comparing this to the original character, I noticed you changed how the eyes look, and I love that little touch.

The only one thing I would have changed is the line right in the middle of her cape(?) that shows where the fold is. It seems a bit too thick and dark toward the end of the line. I would have smoothed out the end of the line into the cloth a bit more, so it doesn't appear so abrupt.

So this sounds like a big ball of praise and not a very good critique, but I honestly have nothing bad to say about this. Everything about this piece is well-drawn and there's so many wonderful details to look at - like the stitching in the clothing and the bits of fur around her face and ears.

Once again, beautiful job! e.deviantart.net/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="" title="Heart"/>

Hello there, red!

You may have received a response to this critique already, but I wanted to present my gratitude and thankfulness to you for such thoughtful and kind words on this deviation. Although I don't think it's particularly noteworthy, I sincerely appreciate your input. Seriously, you give me too much praise.

As for the constructive criticism in regards to the line in the cape, I wholeheartedly agree. Actually, I knew that I'd drawn it incorrectly, but I was too lazy to fix it.

Once again, thank you so very much, red! You're too kind.

Sorry for being so late to reply to this.

I honestly couldn't find anything bad to say about it, and if something was off I would have said so, as in the case of the cape. I just really, entirely love the way the whole thing was executed!

You're so very welcome! Anytime!

Oh, it's not a problem, red! You responded to it faster than I respond to some of my messages, that's for sure.

Ha-ha. Well, gee, thanks! I really do appreciate it.

Very nice! I like what you've done with her eyes. I think I like your drawing more than your reference. X)

I think the shading could be a little bit darker in some places and blend some more with the lineart. Do you smudge the graphite?

Aha-ha. Really? Aww, gee. Well, thank you! My mom said the same thing, actually. *chuckle*

Hmm. Yes, I agree with you. The tones should be stronger in parts.
As for smudging the graphite, I did use a blending stick on certain parts of the composition.

Thanks for the comments and critique!

Yeah, my friend was borrowing it, and when he gave it back today, I had the urge to pick up where I left off with the hunts.

Ha-ha. I see. Cool. What percentage of the game have you completed? I take it you've finished almost all of the hunts.
