Description
Valkyrie sturggled as the man lifted her up.
"Now, be a good girl and pass me the phone." he said.
Valkyrie tried to kick him but he grabbed her leg and twisted it, making her fall to the floor.
"I'll ask one more time. Phone." he said, holding out his hand. Reluctantly, Valkyrie reached into her pocket and gave him the phone.
"Thats a good girl. Now I'm going to give you VERY clear instructions. And if you don't follow them, we may kill you."
Valkyrie looked over at Sanguine and stood up.
"What do I have to do?" she said. "I'm not really that big on killing people, if thats what you had in mind."
Sanguine laughed.
"You certainly do have a wild imagination. No no, we would never ask you to do something so foolish. All you have to do is call Skulduggery."
"And tell him what, exactly? Tell him that I'm being held captive by Billy-Ray Sanguine and.... some guy?"
"Shengon Nhai. Pleasure to meet you."
Valkyrie studied his face.
"No, your not. I've seen Nhai's file and your both two completley different people.
Shengon looked suprised.
"Your one of the more clever people I've taken hostage, you know that? That face was merely a decoy, I supposed you could cal it. To send many in the wrong direction. I daresay that the man in that photo is dead by now."
Nhai smiled.
"You look a little disgusted." he said, before handing her back the phone.
"What do you want me to say?" she said, slowly typing in Skulduggery's number.
"Everything I tell you." said Nhai, taking a step back. Valkyrie pressed the phone to her ears.
Please don't pick up, she thought as she closed her eyes and prayed.
"Hello?" said Skulduggery's voice, and Valkyrie swore.
Nhai mouthed words to her and Valkyrie had no other choice but to obey.
"Skulduggery, I'm... I'm leaving." she said, and Nhai smiled. So did Sanguine.
"Leaving where?" said Skulduggery. She could tell he was worried.
"I can't stay here. Not with you anyway."
Valkyrie felt tears well up in her eyes.
"Where's this all coming from, Val? I don't understand."
"I'm sick of trying to be brave, Skulduggery."
The line was silent for a while, until Skulduggery finnaly spoke.
"I sense you've got company?"
Thank god, she thought. Skulduggery had understood the code words.
"Yes Skulduggery, I'm leaving." she said. How was she going to answer him?
"Okay, Val. Here's what we're going to do. Just tell me where you are and hang up."
"Shengon Nhai's house." she said quickly. As soon as the words had passed her lips she felt Sanguine move closer.
"Goodbye Val. I'll be there as soon as I can. And Val? Just remember-"
With that, Sanguine grabbed the phone and crushed it beneath his feet.
"What you just did was very stupid." said Sanguine. "Because now, I have every right to kill you."
He walked up behind her and grabbed both of her arms. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out handcuffs.
"Do I even want to know why you have those?" Valkyrie said as he closed them around her wrists.
"Probably not." he said. With that, he kicked her to the ground. She fell on her shoulder and let out a cry of pain.
"It hardly seems fair, does it? Oh well. I've never really been fair before. Now doesn't seem like a good time to start." He smiled and removed a gun from his jacket.
