I don't say all detailed and complicated character designs are bad, but usually I prefer something more simple and expressive : <
and make overly weird and detailed characters myself, lol, because it's hard to create something original and simple at the same time ; n ;

but i think w character design, to accomplish that what one can do is really go in depth with fleshing out their character so to say...like, try to imagine how they act and what they do on a normal day and try to find some little things or quirks about them that can then be turned into observable features and details on their outward appearance. idkΒ

I agree. To do this I sometimes even use some real life people's habits or noticeable things. It makes characters more interesting sometimes, it's just important not to directly copy someone else's behaviour. Little details like that, stolen or invented, make characters more alive and unique :Π·
But sometimes it goes other way round, like design influences personality, because it was created first. idk, with every other character it's different : o
