Description Oldie but goodie here, made back in 2009 -- my first sculpture. He's my little gallery hopper for now, I've won a few different awards since I made him and the overall reaction he's received is encouraging, to say the least. Gemstones (specifically Unakite) and wire constitute the jewelry, and the elephant itself was made from stoneware clay.
The world hangs from his tusk -- he's a jolly entity, spreading joy wherever you find him!
Originally titled "Ganesha", but you may call him by whatever name you see appropriate.

SO intricate in details. Visceral colors... an upsetting shine.
Eyes that talk.

I adore the ornaments.
I adore THIS entirely.

Sculpture is great thing to do
I did a few "things" with fimo and sculpey, I really enjoy it
Cute Ganesha!

What is stoneware clay by the way? is it some kind of really solid and strong clay once it's dried out or baked? I never heard about that clay

Thanks!
And stoneware is a tough, gray clay that's usually a combination of different materials, if you've ever used porcelain it's similar but not as soft, lol. You let it dry when you're finished sculpting, fire the work in a kiln, and then apply your glaze or paint. Depending on the glaze, it gets fired again at a different temperature.

Stoneware is usually the clay used on pottery wheels to make ceramic dishes/bowls.

Yes, got it
So it is breakable right? I don't use that kind of clay, super sculpey is a bit more flexible and don't break easily (unless you had a really bad day and smashed your sculpture really hard on the ground...)
Hey, thanks for explanations!

Oh right...! Well, it all depends on what you make (and how thick), of course, but it can be broken on a hard surface.:') The glaze is essentially melted glass on the outside, the clay itself is like a very sturdy, dry rock; so if it does break, it usually does so in halves or large chunks.

Yes, share share share.:U I love sculpture.
I kind of figured this would be appropriate to share, also, seeing as I'll be coming back to this kind of thing soon. It will be fun to compare this to whatever I make next month (after 4 years of neglect! haha)~
