I do! Well, there's nothing wrong with trying new things, meeting new challenges, until you finally feel "settled" enough to where you feel satisfied with your current style. And I suppose being in art school means you're constantly asked to draw in different ways, too; it's a great way to learn and makes you productive and able to adapt in the art field.
Wow, it looks pretty awesome for just something you did quickly! I like sketches and drafts, though, and I think going back to traditional is a great way to keep your skills sharp.Β
Oh dude, that's sad and deep! Poor Yuli! It does seem kinda morbid a surreal image. Why did you think to capture her in a vase, as if she were a cut flower?
That's okay, Amy-bunny! I know school keeps you pretty much dead, but I do miss seeing you around dA and chatting with you about nothing and everything. Just be sure to take care of yourself, sweetpea!!

Yeah, some people pretty much stay in something close to a style they're comfortable with but I'm quite to jumper XD I can't help it. I do have a style that I default to when I want to get an idea out quickly but if I have any time at all, I like to explore.
Right? I'm pleasantly surprised that they came out so well XD. I do tend to do my best work when I don't over think things though.
My school is pretty big on traditional work but the reason I did the last one traditionally was because I wanted to do it in a classmate's style and she was there to consult with for the design π
Yuli has quite the family drama. Sheβs a pretty sad character. I have to try to remember this correctly, but I believe I drew her as a flower because when I was messing around with the shape of the turtleneck, it formed a vase and then I thought that she could pop out of it like a flower and thought that her hair would fit nicely as petals. And I drew her crying because though she never cries during my movie, she's a very sad person so I exaggerated her emotions and put them into a more visual way. π But I like that you mentioned she was cut. I never thought of her as a cut flower in that vase but that could be used a metaphor of how she feels cut down, away from what should be home.
Haha well I'm trying but man am I so behind on my work π
I'm getting some awesome feedback and suggestions for my movie so far so it's really motivating. A lot of people are connecting and understand it and I just think that's magical. There's no language barrier either π

Honestly, I can see the benefit of both sticking to yourself and style, and "style jumping". People recognize an artist for their style, and it's probably easier to create art on a consistent basis if you're using your known skill sets; so for those working or taking commissions, people expect a certain look. Then again, I've seen a lot of professionals become complacent and their art all begins to look exactly the same, one after the other. It's flat and uninspiring. So I like to see every artist be proud of their own personal style, but not afraid to try new things and continue to grow.
Omg gurl, same. When I over think it's near impossible to even produce anything, let alone not feel disappointed by what I forced out. I kinda understand why a lot of artists do all those "warm ups", to not only free up their hand joints but also their minds, to let go of that nagging thought process. xD I still applaud your school for continuing to utilize traditional. I think no school like the old-school, and it's a great foundation. OH! That's cool you went for a classmate and had her oversee your approach. Must've been fun!
Interesting thought process! I mean, turtlenecks are kinda tight so you do have to force your head through, with your hair sticking up and getting all messy. It does remind of a seedling coming up out of the dirt and sending out flowers. But then, yes, she's been cut down and stuck all alone in a vase... her tears are really gut-wrenching! Too sad!
Yikes! Sorry to hear you always feel like you're behind on school work. Hopefully April finds you catching up and doing better, Amy-bunny? I also hope you're remembering to take care of your health, too; you get sick way too often, I think! Don't make me worry about you, my friend. You know Jenny-deer is mama-bear protective sometimes! That is so awesome to hear people are connecting to your movie, and not just the art but also the OC and her touching story!! It's so easy to relate to, on any level and for anyone, I know it'll be amazing!!! You deserve all the love!! Good luck to you!!
