I know there was a cartoon show out there that had sentient dinosaurs with a police force named Triceracops...but dang if I can recall the name!

No, and they even had an old cop nicknamed Two-Horns because he lost a horn in a fight

What's the point? It's been done. The stupid title is the whole point.

Dynamoe In reply to MJBivouac [2009-11-08 17:59:30 +0000 UTC]

I'm really at a loss for the title as it was in the 80's and I only caught bits and pieces of it.

Haha.
It's funny. You NEVER see Triceratops as a smart character. Interesting concept I gotta say.
I DO like the drawing too. Very cool pencil lines

Thank you very much. I hope to draw some more characters from this 'series' when time allows.

So thta's what happened to BJ (from the Barney Show).
It's always tragic to see a child actor go bad
Good one

MJBivouac In reply to Jughead13155 [2009-09-28 18:22:33 +0000 UTC]

He's a cop...and I have never seen any Barney...so that comment is lost on me.

Jughead13155 In reply to MJBivouac [2009-09-28 18:57:22 +0000 UTC]

Just a joke
Barney was a very popular kid show with a purple tyranosorous rex as the host.
BJ was as little kid tricerotops who was part of the show.

MJBivouac In reply to Jughead13155 [2009-09-28 19:07:21 +0000 UTC]

I know about Barney in general..., but never have seen any episodes...knew nothing about a Triceritops sidekick. Now I get it!

I see why you chose this type...the head works so much better than if it were an oversized T-Rex head or long neck (brontosaurus from LBT series). Hey...long necks, beer bottles....story idea!

Hmmm... are you making a statement here about my former profession? I am interested to see what you are going to do with this. If you need story ideas or technical info I would be happy to help.

No, I am not saying anything good or bad about the police at all.

I'm having flashbacks to that old "T-Rex" series with the anthro-dinosaur police Power Ranger guys =A=;

To be honest, I know nothing about it. A friend of mine showed me the opening sequence. It looks REALLY odd to me. But that's 80's cartoons for ya.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJBivouac In reply to DexAntares [2009-09-27 01:16:59 +0000 UTC]

I see what you mean. It looks to me like it was a second banana cheapie made in and for Japan. Later, some American picked it up probably really cheap, and cobbled together the opening using a combination of what was extant, cut out all the material that had the Japanese credits in them, and then added a few scenes from some of the episodes to flesh it out. Then added english language credits with some low tech digital character generator of the time. And I am totally unconvinced that is Louis Armstrong singing the title song.

Yeah, dino-cops is nothing new...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DexAntares In reply to MJBivouac [2009-09-27 01:19:40 +0000 UTC]

I don't think so. I think it's another series with a rather nicely animated opening done by Asian animators, followed by a cheap, minimalist series. Once again... that's the 80's for ya.

MJBivouac In reply to DexAntares [2009-09-27 02:09:43 +0000 UTC]

Speaking of animation, I just saw the new Bionicle movie, The Legend Reborn. It was good! I liked it a lot.

Did you ever see that comic series, Dinosaurs Inc., I think it was called ( from late 80s or early 90s, if I remember ) ?

MJBivouac In reply to Gonzo-Dog [2009-09-26 19:49:12 +0000 UTC]

Don't recall THAT title, but the 80s were rife with independent titles that crashed and burned...I was there! I do know of Xenozoic Tales/Cadillacs and Dinosaurs though. Great freakin' art!

Gonzo-Dog In reply to MJBivouac [2009-09-26 20:21:27 +0000 UTC]

My error...I remembered it wrong..."Dinosaurs for Hire" was the name I was thinking of. I recall it because one cover had a Triceratops in a Hawaiian shirt, beach sandals, shades and a big-ass machete

Man, that sounds about as good as me. That's maybe cos it takes me about 3 years to draw one issue

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MJBivouac In reply to Gonzo-Dog [2009-09-27 01:10:12 +0000 UTC]

No, I made fairly good time on #1. I was getting $20.00 a page back in '86/'87 something like that. So long ago now... ANd I even did a few pages of issue #2 as well as the cover art, but stopped when I knew we had no $$$ for printing. The writer footed the bill, the last I heard he had thousands of copies of #1 in his garage! He gave them out at Halloween! I still have a huge box full! Had we been able to continue, I think it might have been a decent book over the long haul. We got picked up by Diamond Distribution and everything! Kind of cool to see a listing about your own comic in the catalogue. They knew nothing about the book except what they saw in issue #1, and they described it as a Science Fiction Mystery...which it sort of was. But superhero too. But at that time, the the market was flooded with indie comics and we got totally lost in the shuffle. We were just another mediocre B&W in a sea of the same.

Yeah I really missed out on comics through the 90s, up until I left art school in '96, then started slowly getting into the US Underground, lowbrow and modern cartoony stuff like Steve Purcell's Sam & Max. I started several strips through the 90s but it wasn't til 2000 that I kicked off my first complete graphic novel. Good times...I remember when my dream was to get a Diamond distro deal

Well, you stuck with it. That is really the hard part. It's so easy to get discouraged and acll it quits.

Yeah, that graphic novel took 5 years to write and draw 80-odd pages. That's why I'm more into single issues now, though I still have a couple of big ongoing projects. I think it's actually easier to get one big story together than it is to come up with individual 3-4 panel strips on a regular basis...I don't know how these daily webcomic guys do it.
