Thank you! I’m trying really hard to get that right. I keep thinking “I want a gray here” but I’m not doing ink washes this year, only hatching or solid ink. It’s really challenging me.

It's good you feel it this way, once i'm done with my line-art I always feel stuck , not knowing how to add shadows and such
Nice to know you challenge yourself this way ! Only good can come out of it

Thank you~ This is my second inktober and I really love how it seems to inspire me to come out of my comfort zone. :3
I feel stuck sometimes too. But usually when that happens I just take it one step at a time and decide what feels like it’s missing as I go. Someone told me once “everyone has millions of bad drawings and a few great drawings in them. The only way to get rid of the bad drawings is to draw them out.” I think this is a kind reminder that it’s ok to make bad drawings. Then I don’t feel so bad letting go of my perfectionism because if it’s a bad drawing, oh well, at least I will learn something along the way and get rid of one more bad drawing.
Basically, there is no right way to shade. Just have fun and don’t think about it to much. Afterwards, if you don’t like it, you’ll know what to do differently next time. Inktober is really good for this because each day you get to start again and you get a lot of practice in. I don’t usually work in ink so it can be a bit stressful, but I look at it as a challenge that if I do make a mistake I just have to find a way to incorporate it and make it look intentional.
Sorry, I went off on a bit of a tangent...
