Description Napoleonic ship of the line. Full sail, seen from the poopdeck.

Wooden Ship models and boat models/nautical models from the French National Naval Museum. Some of these shots are lower quality than I would have liked due to interfering glass and/or poor lighting. Back in the 18th century, when a contractor proposed to build a new ship for the government, they often presented extremely detailed scale models of what the ship was going to look like. These models are on display - some of them are huge and I tried to get right down onto the decks to get interesting angles.

I thought these might still be useful for references.

I've been doing a lot of nautical art, but I've never been able to do any on-deck work, because finding photos or even models of old tall-ships is just...well, difficult. My little model ships certainly don't hold a candle to these. Thanks so much for uploading them - and for having such a good eye for getting good, intriguing, inspiring shots.
