Mesmerizing. You have a lot of Rael C pics, does she realize how great her backside is? Your image of her in a maid outfit is my favorite, any more of that set?

"the size of the light doesn't effect its intensity, but affects the size of the reflection on the subject". Do you mean, the size of the softbox? or the light inside the sofbox... I got confused at that part... I udnerstand that as much tight the light's cone is, much intense the light, more hard, less spilled, more contrasty... I have a E-TTL Flash to get some practice. It's not the same shotting with a flash set at 17mm than set to 105mm. The angle is tighter at more mm, just like the lenses and all that what means (more intense, harder contrasts, etc).
Awaiting reply!!!

The size of the physical surface of the light.
And, no, it's not about the intensity - a very large collimated light (in terms of the frontal surface of the light) would have the same large specular highlights as I get with my big octodome. Even a very diffused point light (consider the sun) looks "sharp" where it reflects, because the angle is made tight (nearly parallel) by distance. That's why people who want the kind of look I get, use big lights close up.

Yeah, I can see it... More surface of the light, less shinny and crispy reflections, wider surface, softer shine, less crispy... Thanks God I went into 3D for almost one year!!!

For another example - the old "Lithium picnic" look was two umbrellas at a distance from the subject. You get these nice hard tight reflections. It's the exact opposite of my typical look. (Nowadays he's doing different stuff 'cuz he finally bought some big light boxes...)

Thanks for the explanation. I wish there was a side by side comparison for the different types of lighting that you described. (( and no, I am not saying this because I want two sets of butt cheeks to stare at ))
Thanks again for posting and explaining.

Although the new light scheme dont create a so soft , flawless skin as your normal setup does I liked it since it created a more deeper scene with more curves and volumes than usual.
