This is so helpful in teaching me how to determine hip shape through bone structure!
I've always tried to use myself as a reference, but I'd love to do different shapes as well. This was really helpful.
Thank you!

I struggle with hips the odd times I actually draw, so I'm sure this'll come in useful.

This is pretty helpful to some people I guess but you do realise that most women do not have the so called "tight gap" especially if they are not underweight, right?

Even if you're at a healthy or slightly chubby weight, most girls CAN have a thigh gap. It's dependent on how you stand more than anything.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

harperyo In reply to dj-smackdown [2014-04-29 12:09:55 +0000 UTC]

No, it is a matter of bone structure.

No, its a matter of thighs ._. You can be thin and not have one, you can be chubby and have one. It depends on how large your thighs are. And though wait and bone structure has some to do with it, it all comes down to your thighs... I know, I'm a girl, and I know many other girls.

Xiskii In reply to TheGreatRayne12 [2014-05-12 06:43:33 +0000 UTC]

I'm a girl and even if you are skinny, your bone structure [and muscle] determines whether or not you will have a thigh gap. Now sure, you can obtain a thigh gap by serious dieting and lowering your body fat percentage, but natural thigh gaps [aka not dieting to lower your fat percentage and muscle mass] are entirely based on your bone structure.Β Β

Naturally you want to have a healthy fat percentage but if your bone structure and muscle doesn't give you a natural thigh gap, you have to go below the healthy percentage to obtain that look.Β

You should take a look into many popular tumblr posts about thigh gaps and the facts behind them. Many even show you simple stances to give you a false gap which is what most of these popular thigh gap pictures really are.

... Seriously?Β

Xiskii In reply to Slyswagger [2014-06-02 21:03:23 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely not. Some people have wider hips or shoulders. Some have longer spines and legs. Etc.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Slyswagger In reply to Xiskii [2015-05-30 08:04:18 +0000 UTC]

True but in most cases is it not based on height as well ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Xiskii In reply to Slyswagger [2015-06-07 03:43:07 +0000 UTC]

Not necessarily. I've seen both tall and short women have wide hips, or no hips at all.Β

You are like the first person I have ever seen to not draw style A O_O It's very unrealistic I think. Every photo I have ever seen there is a curve for the hip, then the leg, not one big curve for both!
