Personality: [✔Creative✔] [✔Great Listener✔] [✔Passionate✔]
Mirren displays his creativity with his clothes. The wardrobe he was given during his time in the circus seemed endless, chock full of colors and styles. Despite this, he prefers to wear things that remind him of his time performing such as jumpsuits and frilly clown costumes. He takes fashion very seriously and, depending on his mood, may act out irrationally when he sees a clear faux pas! Or at least a faux pas in his mind. He seems to have adjusted well to seeing things from other time periods, but sometimes it doesn’t vibe well with him…
When you’re a mime, you become a great listener. It’s a skill he picked up from performing. In order to have the crowd laugh and have a good time, it’s important to listen to how they react to your gags and tricks. Mirren kept this trait outside of performing too, listening to his coworkers whenever they had something to vent about. It's not like he could tell them to leave him alone anyway.
Mirren takes his craft very seriously. Being a mime is a tough gig and a lost art. He’s so passionate about his job that his jokes and mannerisms from performing leaked into his daily life. It wasn’t long until Mirren found himself to be completely mute. Whether or not it's by choice is a mystery. Unfortunately, this may make him seem distant from others...
[=Quiet=][=Invasive=][=Watchful=]
Being mute has its perks and downsides. One of the perks is that you can keep all of your answers incredibly ambiguous if need be. But one of the problems is that you could never really express what you’re feeling. It gets ten times harder when you wear a mask that covers your face. Because of this, Mirren is incredibly hard to read, making some of his actions seem insane and uncalled for.
Mirren is used to working in close quarters with his fellow carnies. They never seemed to mind if he stood close to them to hear or participate in conversations. However, this habit carried on into his new social circles. Mirren would often find himself standing silently over a conversation, not knowing how to insert himself into it without causing a scene. He seems to scare people often, as it's quite frightening to see a masked fellow standing over you.
Even though he desperately wants to be social and entertain, sometimes Mirren spends a lot of his time lurking in the shadows and watching people. He watches them smile and laugh, cry, search for things. Originally, he started doing this to hone his craft of miming, but now it became something he did in his free time. Mirren doesn’t have the best luck when it comes to finding places to stand and watch, often scaring people because he’s standing under a flickering light or in dark corners.
[✖Pushy✖] [✖Aggressive✖] [✖Stalker-ish✖]
Mirren wants things. And when he wants things, he wants to make sure he gets them. Growing up as a peasant, he didn’t have much, making him very possessive of what he did have. As his clothing collection grew along with his fame and favor, more of his silent demands were given in to stop his dramatic, aggressive outbursts.
When he was growing up, Mirren wasn’t aggressive at all. In fact, he was quite a model kid. However, with every passing day in the circus, Mirren became angrier and angrier, letting his frustration build up until he had no outlet other than to lash out physically. Because of his mask and inability to speak, these aggressive outbursts became sporadic in nature, as nobody could tell what he was really feeling though all of this.
There’s something about other boys that intrigues Mirren to an insane degree. He wants to know everything about them. Mirren is known to obsess over certain men, learning everything he can about them. He even goes so far in depth to analyze how they act, so he can pretend that he’s them entirely. Should you approach him when you’re his fixation, he’ll act out in a way that you think is funny, due to his constant observation of you. He’ll try and keep you by his side as long as possible. When you try to leave, he may try and stop you in a rather unpleasant way...
Time Era: Late 1800s
History: History:Mirren was born in the late 1800’s to a poor family. He was born somewhere in Kalos, where he lived with his family in the dregs of society. One night, when he was in his early teens, he snuck out of home to the train station, a ticket to the circus in hand. He’d seen posters for the upcoming circus plastered throughout the city. The bright colors called to him. They pressured him into coming. Having no money of his own, he begged on the streets every day to gather up enough coins to see the show.
Mirren remembers the anticipation during the train ride. His heart was leaping and jumping like a circus act of its own. He was finally going to see a show. He was finally going to discover his purpose.
He remembers sitting in the crowd as the first circus clowns entered on stage. The excitement ran through his body like electricity. He mimicked their tricks and pranks in childish wonder. He remembers howling when seeing the animals for the first time. He’d never seen such exotic pokemon! They were all so large and weird, dressed up in costumes for the show. But it wasn’t until Mirren saw the mimes did he fall in love.
There was something about the way they moved silently that made Mirren question his entire life up to that point. He could be just like that! After all, that’s how he felt at home. Silent and trapped, unable to escape an invisible box of hunger and poverty.
The show ends but Mirren doesn’t leave. He waits until the crowds clear before he jumps the circus fence and wanders into the center of the ring. The lights were blinding and mesmerising. He could imagine his own crowd laughing and enjoying his antics. It all felt real. It felt natural.
A hand on his shoulder startles him. He turns around to see the Ringmaster, dressed up in his fancy suit. They exchanged some words, where Mirren lied about being left as an orphan and sneaking in, and the Ringmaster extended to him a proposition that he’d never forget.
“Run away with me!” The Ringmaster says, using all his charm and cajoling, “You’ll never go hungry. I’ll let you be any act you want.”
So Mirren agrees and never looks back.
He fits in well with the rest of the carnies. It turns out that they all had similar stories about how they met the Ringmaster. But Mirren didn’t mind. For the first time in his life, he felt like he was home.
The role of the mime came naturally to him. Being silent was something he was always good at. He was able to mimic movements well and keep a wide smile. Even his first performance was a success! His mentor, an older man who never spoke, taught Mirren all that he knew. And soon, Mirren replaced him entirely. Years go by and he simply becomes “The Mime”, dedicating all of his time to his craft. But as Mirren got older, he realized that he may have been… different. He’d try and talk to his coworkers about how he was feeling, but he usually got brushed off with faces and sneers of disgust. To them, liking someone of the same gender was odd and disgusting. Because of this, Mirren began to distance himself from the other acts. When they called to him, he’d simply smile and wave, nothing more. He became less and less interested in conversing with anyone at all. Suddenly, he became “The Mime” to his fellow carnies too. Silent, like a ghost, but there nonetheless.
But things were eating away at him. His frustration about not being understood got to him. One night, during a show, one of the clowns tumbles over in front of him. Normally, he’d play it off with a slew of gestures and facial expressions, watching the crowd laugh with glee. But today, he grabs the clown and collides his fist with their face, watching as blood splatters on the ground from their broken nose.
Mirren sat outside of the Ringmasters tent that night, trembling in fear. He thought this was it. He wasn’t going to be a mime any longer. The Ringmaster calls for him to come inside. He slides inside, his head down in disgrace. He sits down, expecting the Ringmaster to scold him and kick him out.
Instead, the Ringmaster cups his cheek and gently coos, “What’s bothering you, Mirren? Let’s talk about it…”
For the first time in a while, Mirren spoke.
It was a cold night in the middle of winter. Everyone had gone into their respective tents for the night. All except one. The night was as silent as a mime, performing all alone. The night was silent enough to cover up a crime.
Day breaks, and the circus begins to liven up once again despite the cold. The trainers were taking care of the animals and the clowns were already downing booze. One of the bearded ladies was joking with a trapeze acrobat. Mirren appeared from the Ringmaster's tent and all eyes were on him. He was wearing a mask, one with a smile plastered on it. The air became still. Mirren ran off.
He hears a scream behind him. And the sound of chase followed. He keeps his mask on no matter what. He keeps running and running, not a sound leaving his mouth as he pants. He dives into the woods, the sounds of canine barking behind him…
Eventually, the sounds stopped and Mirren ran into a clearing. Before him was one of the most extravagant buildings he’d ever seen! He takes a few steps forward before a voice rings in his ears:
“Murderer.”
