My lad Cale! ...again
Cale is a musician who draws, and he has a creative and analytical mind, difficult childhood, trust issues and repressed emotions. It's hard to actually know him, and he doesn't let people close enough to see what he is really like, because he doesn't believe he can make a meaningful connection. Still, he wants his thoughts to be seen, understood, embraced; but in the end he is always disappointed and stuck inside his head with overflooding emotions he's avoiding to directly face.

In a way we're alone. What we are is lost in translation, you're never quite the person to anyone who you are to yourself.
This drawing was inspired by Tool's song Rosetta Stoned ! I could ramble about how wonderfully overwhelming it is to feel music with (almost) every sense and brain cell, but I'll spare you... But that was exactly the feeling that made me want to draw this. To a certain extent it's painful to feel so much, because the sensation is always going to stay inside me; the urge to share it with somebody and trying to tell how meaningful it feels is strong, but I can't word it.

For some reason it's easier for me to focus on feeling music at work than at home, and my mind started to freely wander around this song. I'm not sure if this song was meant to be interpreted the way I did as I dove beyond the character's rather (tragi)comical DMT trip, but that's why I find Tool so fascinating. I feel there's always another door open beside the "obvious" lyrics and metaphors. This band is one hell of a drug I'm telling ya!! xD (and I'm a good employee even if I'm zoning out a lot when I'm listening to music lol)
Back to OC things, talking about drugs - Cale doesn't do any or drink alcohol. He has learned the hard way how substance use makes his ability to create music go down the toilet, and because music gives him a sense of control and overcontrolling helps him to keep it together, he stays sober. He hasn't been able to quit smoking, though.
