It looks quite good but if it is a modeling training you should attach the mesh too... About what I can see the head it self as a few minor proporcion errors that you should tweak. The eyes are too close of each other, the center of the iris should end at the line lips end. To manage it your character as to be with the eyes crossed... Another problem are the ears, they are placed to high and are too big for the face size. The human ears should start at the eyebrow line and end at the bottom of the nose... The model of the ears them selves looks quite good but its difficult to tell... Start a thread or join a jpg of the mesh to this one so we can figure out some things and solutions that can improve your work. Never the less for the first human and with only a weekend of work it is quite good. I am hard commenting on you based on your past work, which is very very good. As so I think you are capable to improve a lot more this one.
Keep it up,
Nuno Pereira

very nice, well done! Especially for a first try.
You use MAX 4? Isn't that a bit old? Why not newer version?

[link] , its a fantastic app, but it still requires you to make the base mesh and render externally, its just for sculpting really but it really is just what I wanted. You can see some of the stuff Ive been doing with it in my gallery if you like.

Wow, looks very promising.. pretty much like Zbrush? Or isn't?

It is much much easier to use than zbrush but it does not currently have mesh creation tools or mesh painting tools, it is specifically for sculpting and has lots of nice features like photoshop style layers(so you can have like multiple hairstyles or wrinkles or whatever and blend them with the opacity sliders etc). I think they will have a 30 day demo out very soon.
