Description My first human head.
Didn't have much to do in the weekend, so modeled for fun.
Just to let you folks know that I'm still modeling sometimes.

...
3dsmax 4,
nothing "advanced" this time. Standard subdivision modeling with max's scanline renderer.

Hey, thanks

Perfect? No, since I modeled it based on a photo of myself, and we know nobody is perfect, therefore it can't be perfect

Thanks.
It was made using box modeling.

Great job. Is it a main character from Hitman game?

P.S.
Good to know that someone in Estonia is so good in modeling and rendering (I'm talking about all your works). I'm too from Estonia, but I'm only beginer

Hehe, not from Hitman, I modeled it based on photos of my own "head"...

PS we were all beginners once...

"I'll be back!" Neat model. Ears are kind of weird, but I'm sure it'll be much better when it's all textured and finished.

Thanks, hopefully I'll texture it someday.

It looks quite good but if it is a modeling training you should attach the mesh too... About what I can see the head it self as a few minor proporcion errors that you should tweak. The eyes are too close of each other, the center of the iris should end at the line lips end. To manage it your character as to be with the eyes crossed... Another problem are the ears, they are placed to high and are too big for the face size. The human ears should start at the eyebrow line and end at the bottom of the nose... The model of the ears them selves looks quite good but its difficult to tell... Start a thread or join a jpg of the mesh to this one so we can figure out some things and solutions that can improve your work. Never the less for the first human and with only a weekend of work it is quite good. I am hard commenting on you based on your past work, which is very very good. As so I think you are capable to improve a lot more this one.

Keep it up,

Nuno Pereira

Thanks for a long comment

Actually, it's not a training, it's a work in progress.. just a human head for another project I've been working on.

As for proportions - you shouldn't take them too seriously because, first - render is made in orthographic projection, therefore there's not perspective distortion, which usually happens in real world. Second, "camera" is slightly above the head, therefore position of the ears compared to eyebrows cannot be measured either etc.

Wow you ARE alive.. I never thought .

This is neat man, great model, very good anatomy here I think. Could be a sweet sweet realistic render if you gave it a full workout .

Nice and sweet to see something from you again, been Aaaaages since I last saw you.

Welcome back!

Hope you're keeping us upated! It's looking pretty good for a WIP, so keep it up

very nice, well done! Especially for a first try.
You use MAX 4? Isn't that a bit old? Why not newer version?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mmarti In reply to Oli4D [2007-02-10 15:00:28 +0000 UTC]

Thanks

I dunno.. I'm kinda satisfied with max4.. Newer versions mostly improve animation aspects, leaving modeling part pretty much the same...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Oli4D In reply to mmarti [2007-02-11 00:39:30 +0000 UTC]

well yeah, could be, i don't know. I'm not a MAX expert. I just thought that between 4 and 9 something MUST have changed .
Great modeling anyway!

mmarti In reply to Oli4D [2007-02-11 09:57:48 +0000 UTC]

As far as I know, only useful thing in max8 is pelt mapping for easy model uvw-s unwrapping. Btw, they have max9 now?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Oli4D In reply to mmarti [2007-02-12 05:59:01 +0000 UTC]

yeye, MAX 9 is out since a few month.
I do not really belive that all the rest that changed is not useful... but well like i sad: I don't use MAX

SirCula In reply to mmarti [2007-02-10 16:46:43 +0000 UTC]

[link] , its a fantastic app, but it still requires you to make the base mesh and render externally, its just for sculpting really but it really is just what I wanted. You can see some of the stuff Ive been doing with it in my gallery if you like.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mmarti In reply to SirCula [2007-02-10 16:58:52 +0000 UTC]

Wow, looks very promising.. pretty much like Zbrush? Or isn't?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SirCula In reply to mmarti [2007-02-10 21:33:47 +0000 UTC]

It is much much easier to use than zbrush but it does not currently have mesh creation tools or mesh painting tools, it is specifically for sculpting and has lots of nice features like photoshop style layers(so you can have like multiple hairstyles or wrinkles or whatever and blend them with the opacity sliders etc). I think they will have a 30 day demo out very soon.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mmarti In reply to SirCula [2007-02-11 09:56:21 +0000 UTC]

Seems quite easy to use indeed. Layer concept is a very good idea.
I'll wait for that demo then
