Description More messing around with Bristol paper! But Arches cold press will always be my first love

This is another design that was not used during my Decorative Illustration class. The Hindu goddess Lalita is known as The Playful Mother. She’s also an archer, though her arrows are made of flowers. I like to think of her as the Hindu equivalent of the Greek goddess Artemis...but less feral.

So you prefer cold-pressed paper?
I still didn't choose betweem cold- and hot- pressed... I like them both.. But for now I think hot-pressed is more close to me.
I think I should draw on cold-pressed more, maybe I'll like it more

I prefer cold-pressed for painting on because I work in maaaany layers and I think coldpressed handles multiple layers the best. I dont draw straight onto the paper though.

I usually draw on regular sketchbook paper or tracing paper, then I photocopy and transfer the line-work to the cold-press. It's many more steps than drawing straight onto the paper. I'm actually considering trying to draw staight onto the paper because I think its a more spontaneous, experiemental way of doing things--at least for me it is!

Oooh I LOVE her face. Little details, little highlights and the expression in her eyes. <3

And her hair, but I think I should just make a macro for complimenting your illustrations of hair since THEY ARE ALL so devastatingly awesome.

I'm using vellum bristol. Its not great for the way I use watrcolor though. I work way too wet and in way to many layers. x.x

Sparkly light and flowers and flowy hair ftw\o/ Hippie van missing. I love this piece The composition with the wavy cloth is awesome and I love the strong light. My only comment would be that the light should maybe lit her dress up a bit more as well, now the red and blue are a bit flat. Maybe!

I would love to blame the flatness on the paper as I've notied that when watercolor dries on bristol it tends to look chalky, but I think the lack of yellow reflecting light on the garments is just my poor color planning.

Wow.
That picture is amazing.
I don't think I've said it, but you have a unique and wonderful style that really draws the eye.
You should definitely have your work up in art galleries. And if they disagree, they're missing out.

That's the nicest thing you've ever said to me! (weep)

Flattery is a magical thing. It's even better if its sincere.

I didn't mean it as flattery. It's the truth. Your artwork is stunning. (And I'm sure so are you.)

Subliminal messages into you mind!
It's so nice and sunny out today. I really want to buy some hydrangea flowers but I would have nowhere to put them. x.x They need sunlight and my appartment is the land of perpetual darkness!

Lianthanis In reply to MNat [2010-06-22 20:39:56 +0000 UTC]

*hehe* Yeah ... it worked nicely ... which was especially odd cause such stuff never happens to me, plus it became stronger when I crept closer to the monitor o__O

Ah, flowers ... I have some calla/ arum lillies - which still surprises me cause they need a lot of attention. They're in their third or fourth year already ^^ And they don't like direct sunlight.

My flat is blocked by the mill oppisite the street, so unless it's summer, I'm living im my blessed, mo0re or less constant perpetual darkness too

My my ... and now I've learned a couple of new words too - lucky me

Gorgeous hands, somehow the arm leaves a nice impression on me. And once again: damn if the hair isn't detailed and flowing so nicely and freely behind~ <3

Isnt that what Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon used to do? I distinctly remember him throwing flowers through concrete and even throwing one through a guy's heart once.

I'm really glad you like her hands. I've been practicing
