In USA English slang, there's a phrase, "Apply the Golden Screwdriver," and "Let the smoke out of the transistors" when an electronic repair results in catastrophic failure!

One of my very light weight radios got pulled to the ground by its heavy power cord, when I accidently wrapped it around my hand. Worked fine for three weeks, then stopped with a crackle and a wisp of smoke. One of my friends said he could probably fix the broken circuit board...
