Description This quick little map plays with the idea of a Portuguese Reconquista of Moorish Al-Andalus and the subsequent invasion of Morocco.

I don't really have a detailed scenario played out here; fact remains though that the Portuguese did indeed kindled the idea of capturing Al-Andalus from the Moors and did indeed conquer Tânger, Ceuta and other towns along the Atlantic, attempting to go further down in Morocco. In this scenario, Portugal occupies larger parts of Moorish Iberia by securing the Sevilha, Córdova and Xaém (Jaen) to itself int the 13th century.

Unlike the Castilians, the Portuguese are not embarking on a large scale expulsion of the Arabic and Jewish populations. Muslim inhabitants, known as Mudéjars, are guaranteed to continue unmolested in the practice of their faith, language and customs. Although later centuries see periods of intolerance, forced conversions and the Portuguese-based romanisation of the Arabic language, the Moors of Portugal manage to keep their identity and traditions. In the late 1400s, the Emirate of Granada is conquered by Portugal giving way to an unprecedented merge of the two cultures.

After winning the Battle of Alcácer Quibir in 1578, the Portuguese subsequently invade the Atlantic and the Mediterranean coasts of Morocco as far as Oran (Orão) in the East and Al-Aayoun in the South. The following century and a half sees the Moroccan interior either being conquered or voluntarily joining Portugal.

In the wake of the 20th century, Portugal is a prospering state where the three largest segments of the population - Portuguese speaking Portuguese, Arabic speaking Moors and Tamazight speaking Berbers - manage to maintain a common identity.
