Description Saturday 24th April 2005...

Myself and some of the PMers (photomalaysia) and DA members went out to roam the street of Kuala Lumpur in search of homeless . Not just to take shots of them but to understand the pain and grievance that they have gone through.

As we wander for hours, we came accross an old guys sitting, then sleeping at the sidewalk in between Macdonalds and Central Market, as usual being chicken (at least me), trying to use the telephoto to get a good shot of him, since he looked to me like a bit hostile.... As we continue walking we bumped again with this guy, he was sitting down on the road behind the macdonalds (not the backlane), the group was like trying to figure out ways to approach this guy.. and of course, the ringleader (evan -- [link] ) came and approach the fella together with george (another member of the team), and we all start to crowd on him.

He then tell us his story..... in summary he is actually from Betong, and have been homeless for the past four months. After all his properties where impounded after he was "jampi-ed"(black magic) by some evil people, leaving him and his entire family to roam the streets of the Klang Valley. He continuously advised us never to simply give out our IC to strangers, an advice we were very sure to keep for a very long time.

Me myself was touched by the story told by him, by the expression of his face and tears in his eyes... he touched my heart.....

now I'm accused of being callous and unfeeling (which is not true, I feel as the rest do, I just don't show it) but as soon as I saw this picture and read the story, i admit i cried a little.

hope the guy is ok now..

great photo, emotionally capturing..

this is a really strong image, especially with the way you captured his eyes, it's very heart felt and u can feel his pain and suffering without knowing exactly what his story is, because his eyes seems to tell the whole story

This is an amazing picture... The story behind the man's sad state is truly heartbreaking. The sepia tone is quite appropriate because it creates a feeling of nostalgia (maybe longing for the good old days?). And the way you've captured the tears in the man's eyes... just makes it very, very poignant. Good job!
