Yesterday I went to see Rango and it was absolutely amazing! Not only was the animation top-notch, but the story and music were amazing as well! Finally an animation with some balls! Sometimes I wondered why it was labeled as a kids movie. There were some scenes where it became really trippy, I've never used drugs but I can imagine what it's like after watching certain scenes XDWell, it's almost certain that Rango will win the Oscar, because if an abomination like Cars 2 will win, I'll be very angry! The way Verbinski makes animated movies, is the way I want to make them. Not just for kids, But to make them the way I want to! Just look how bad-ass the first trailer was! Love the hard rock song at the end. I recognize the tune, but I don't know the title: [link]
So ofcourse I had to make some fanart! Completely made with my laptop and tablet. Probably the most time I spend on shading as well. Man, those were a lot of scales to draw!

I totally went and saw this yesterday too--top notch! Very different that what you'd expect, and certainly not really for kids, there was some pretty scary stuff going on there. Loved the character design, and when the character designer's name came up in the credits (Crash McCreery) I squealed for joy (he's one of my favorite character/creature designers). Such fun to watch, a good treat for the eyes, as well as a uniquely fun story that has all that western feel to it. And of course, Johnny Depp with all his great voices.

I disagree, but maybe this tip can help. Try to highlight each scale, it gives it a more life-like feeling

Cras was good but I think it was below par compared to other Pixar movies so Rango has a chance to win. Unless Cars 2 able to do something crazy

At first I wanted to be lazy and use a texture, but I realised I never tried to draw a scaly skin. It was actually a lot of fun
