Could look a bit more cuter ('tejas' as one may describe). After all he is son of the sun (suryaputhran). I envisioned a kind of achillies' looks. Battered demeanor yet stunningly handsome. Facial hair doesn't suit much. Should somewhat match the karthikeyan theme of yours.

I think the confusion is mainly because there isn't much details about KARNA in our 'Purana'....
You should consider some outside reading...
I would recommend you to read "MRITYUNJAYA" by the famous Bengali novilist Sivaji Savant.
It can be described as the version of Mahabharata Mainly through the eyes of KARNA!
Translations are available in Hindi, English, Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu etc... (I haven't been able to find any e-book versions of this so far....) 
from that you might get a clearer Picture of him....
