Lilja narrowed her eyes as she nodded to the staff. "The "little ones" as you call them appear more human. Like Dolls more than clanks, really."

Mr. Butler nodded. "Their external surfaces have soft leather and chamois nicely polished to simulate skin. I believe your uncle wanted attendance by maidens of a more human appearance. I should really say no more, Madame."

Lilja sighed. "As I learn more of him I find him a very different person than I remember as a little girl. I'll retire and see you in the morning when I break fast."

"As you wish, Madame. Raven and Crow will attend to all you're requirements and stand near your room throughout the night should any need occur. Good night and sleep well." Mr. Butler called to the little maid on the steps in the whirring, clicking language of clanks and it nodded.

As she ascended the stairs with the little servant clank called Raven, Lilja considered it. It occurred to her that her Uncle dangerously approached the limits of the laws that forbad the simulation of humans with mechanical artifice.
