I adore the delicate texture you've achieved with the wings. How do you rumple your steel so nicely?
This is a lovely piece.

Glad you like it. The wings are made out of the baffles that hang in the middle of gas water heaters. I stop when I see a heater on the road and just lift them out. They oxidize to beautiful colors. I'll see if I can put a picture on my page.

Wow. Baffles eh? I think I may have to find some to play with. Thanks for sharing! By the way, I really like your family of bike frames. They make me think of biped antelopes. I imagine they would move very quietly and gracefully. How long have you been playing with metal anyhow?

Did you see the photo of the baffles in my "scraps"? It's how they look when you pull them out...

I DID see!
I think I may have faved them too. Thanks for posting them just because I asked I never would have thought baffles could be so beautiful all on their own, but I would have photographed and taken them home too.

The baffles are only in gas water heaters and they pull out easly. Re. metal play, How long, oh my, I started making jewelry in 1970, working professionally. The welding fun began about 10 years ago. I'm also a weaver and was born in Vancouver. I just want to say to you, you're fabulous, Your work is beautiful and passionate. you do so many things, so well. I'm totally blown away... Good luck in all you do.

That is such a kind thing to say! Encouragement like that is so very appreciated. Sometimes I look at my work so critically that it's nice to know my passion and feelings get conveyed to others, since I seem blinded to it after a while. Most likely comes from staring at one's work for way too long and being, maybe, a little too self-critical. Knowing that what I do actually affects people is one of the things that keeps me running with this creative thing I have, so thanks.

What an unusual species of birds. It appears to be comprised of metal, which I suspect makes it difficult to be shot by hunters. Nonetheless, you don't see too many of them on TV or any magazines. Are they an endangered species?

Seriously, though, beautifully crafted sculptures. If I wasn't your stereotypical starving artist types, I'd love to have one in my yard.
