To say their relationship was interesting is the worst thing I ever heard. This relationship was the most toxic relationship in the damn series. The fact eva fans refuse to accept that fact just because they like to ship these two together just shows how sad eva fans really are.

Is it strange that I'm somehow reminded of the fanfic, Scar Tissue?

There are many opinions out there about her, but I would argue that they both did things that weren't very respectful to each other. I would say they both have their good and bad sides. One thing I love about the series is that it's hard to get behind any one character because none of them are 100% morally pure.

I really love what you've done with the large threatening shadow and the quotes, it's a very powerful and effective piece.

Wow. Neat what you did with the hands/shadows.
If you want to mull over some of the stuff you saw, there's a pretty good vid for End of Eva that I saw recently that might interest you. I only bring it up because it helped me see something cool with the Asuka Shinji dynamic, at least in the movie: blip.tv/foldablehuman/s3e2-end…

That was excellent, thank you for sharing that! I love how much this series has been interpreted and dissected; I have been on the hunt for Eva video critiques over the last week or so, but I haven't seen this one yet! I've heard both arguments that End of Eva was supposed to be the true end of the series, and that End of Eva was nothing more than revenge, but I think this video interpreted it best by separating those arguments.

He has a follow up too, but it's messier and off the cuff.
Yeah, most reviews or interpretations tend to fail to take in reality and the audience's perceived reality around the work, and how that impacted the later works especially. They'd rather take in the whole text and try to figure it out on its internal logic alone, which... no? Not for this work, it hates you when you try to do that.
( It's really cool, I feel like this work all at once demonstrates death of the author... while also ripping it to shreds? You're really missing a lot when you take Anno and the events around Eva out of it, but without the audience's reaction it also becomes far less meaningful.)

What I liked about his follow up video was that he brought up the issues of dub vs sub, which I hadn't thought of. I watched the dub, which paints Shinji in a more, well, I don't want to say sympathetic light, but it gives you that twinge of "I don't know whether to hate this guy or feel sorry for him". I am curious how watching the sub would change my interpretation.
You probably have already seen it, but did you watch the PBS Idea Channel video they did about death of the author and Eva? www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVm65t…

Yes I did! That was a pretty decent Idea Channel episode, though I wasn't totally on board with what they were going for. Death of the author is one of those subjects.
I saw the dub first, then the sub, and initially when watching the sub I remember being hit with "wow, these are actually kids" and not "these are dudes pretending to be kids".
I really don't like Eva's dub, it's missing/recontextualizing a lot of the nuance, and the first few episodes until the voice cast figures things out are absolutely dreadful. Well, Asuka's pretty good throughout, she'd still hold up today.

That's true. I remember reading something about that scene where Misato comes into Shinji's room and offers to sleep with him, and he (understandably) freaks out. In the dub she is just like "oh I'm here for you" or something. I thought, "jeez why is he so freaked out, she's just trying to be nice." Then I realized how much I was probably missing because of the translation.
Gotta love those early episodes. Their voices were so entertaining (for all the wrong reasons). But I also agree that Asuka's voice actress was great, glad they picked someone who actually spoke some German.
