True, true. Personally, in a long-term aspect I would go for Blender. For a free software, it has a lot of features and has improved.

Indeed, Maya is one of the industry standards. I kinda wished that wasn't necessarily the case as it is a great software, but not too accessible for the average person.

Interesting, I always thought that it was because of how larger animation companies need people who are specialized in the particular area. From what I was told, essentially the larger the company is, the more specialized that the animators become.

It's probably both. I don't work in any studio or anything so I wouldn't really know, but from my experience I can see why people would specialize in a particular area; because everything that goes into making a film or game like rigging, animation etc. are art forms in and of themselves.
