Description my first commission of the summer. hold on *barfs*

i hated doing this piece. well hate is a strong word. i dont think my heart is in here, though 35 hours of my soul deff is. she wanted 'cute' and flowers and sunshine and a balloon.

concept: ...well at least there arnt any butterflies and bunnies

technique: lazy pointillism

the good part: this is my first time trying out 'sun spots'[light shining through trees], and i did this whole piece without any photo reference [because a.) children models are hard to get and b.) i wanted it to have a dream quality to it].

its 40"x50", and im getting $200 for it.

I think it's very good and not too super sweet at all, very nice brush work!

I second ezs. You deserve a lot more for this work. Especially for it's size. Especially for how nice it is (really, it's looks quite nice!). Sunspot are definitely successful. Good work I say.

she saw it on delivery and gave me $400 instead, which is more than i used to make on my min wage job last summer in a month. so its all good.

glad you like it, im going to try and do real studies of sun spots rather than make them up with no reference from now on.

The finished product is great. Listen to your mum and dad: take out "inexpensive" from your business card. I reckon you deserve at least $400 for 35 hours work. Being 19 doesn't diminish your talent in any way, and age is no barrier to making money. Good luck with it.

yeah she gave me $400, so its all good. i think i will use that to price the rest of my murals, somehow.

You may not have enjoyed doing it, but you did a phenomenal job on it. You are also ripping yourself off. This [link] is an 11"x14" and I just sold it for $250.00. Don't be so modest with your prices. Get what you are worth.

thank you, your the fourth person today to tell me to stop selling myself short. i actually made up business cards that did say "Inexpensive Illustrations, paintings, murals and portraits" and my mom and dad told me to take out the 'inexpensive'. i donno.. im 19, and i dont know if making big bucks will happen for a 19 year old.

im going to start charging more, that lady ended up paying me $400 anyways...she knew she ode me more. ^_^....

19 has nothing to do with it. Picasso began painting at 9. He already had a decade under his belt at your age, and almost sold out his first showing. If it's good, it's good; even if you're 9.

damn that means im behind by 10 years, i wonder what his kid paintings looked like? stuff he did later on when he was old i wonder? i saw a painting by frazetta when he was like 8 or something and it blew my mind.

i think i was doing a bad job at copying manga when i was 8..brr...

I think is is wonderful, there is nothing "lazy" about Pointillism!!
OK, well maybe it is a bit, i mean the dots just lay there and do nothing but . . . lay there. The hard part is the ability to put them into the image in such a way that they interact with each other.

i actually blew the image up pretty far and then walked backwards away from it. it has all the hallmarks of two kids walking out of the shade into a sun dappled field.

Ya dun good kid!!

i would pay two hundred for it. (if i actually liked kids that is!!)

i would prefer cats stalking prey, maybe with flame throwers or high powered rifles, In a sun dappled field. with all the gory bits strew around from a feline feeding frenzy.

Once again i am in awe of your ability to change styles so fluidly. i would be drawing viens on each and every leaf, the kids clothes would have meticulously drawn shadows and fabric patterns.

a wonderful work. well worth twice what you were paid.

Heres (lifts glass), to more of these jobs, (meaning paying jobs, that is). do what pays the bills, but remain true to your inner artist.

did you find anything to seal it with?

thanks for the comment. yes i got a good sealer that is UV ray proof and removable in case there is graffitii on it someday [but its going to be in her backyard so i think its safe]. i just got back from delivering it to her house and she went NUTTS...paid me $300 with a $100 tip so i did get twice what she agreed too. which is good. im working on business cards to pass out at her party tonight, hopefully they come out okay.

thanks for supporting me, hope your doing okay
