Description I has the pleasure of taking this close up at the Lapworth Museum of Geology today.
www.birmingham.ac.uk/facilitie… , a fantastic museum crammed with geological delights and well worth a visit, it's even free to enter. This is their stunning Parkinsonia Parkinsonia ammonite from the middle Jurassic, and it was named after James Parkinson (1755-1824) the famous surgeon, palaeontologist and political activist, although best known as the first person to describe Parkinson's disease. This example has been cut in half and the calcite crystals that formed within the chambers as it fossilised are just so beautiful. I find the spiral form so pleasing to look at, and the soft colour tones just enhance it further. If only I could have taken it home! The above information was supplied by the museum information and I can't recommend it highly enough. Taken on my Nokia 3 smartphone.
