I've been carrying around this idea for about a year of shooting some aerialists in the rainforest near to where I live. So when Steven contacted me about doing another shoot and I saw in his profile that he was an aerialist I thought Brilliant!

So I spoke to him about my idea and he discussed it with his aerial partner Emma and they agreed to give it a go.

And when he sent me the link to a couple of videos of their performances I couldn't believe my luck. These guys are really, really good - check them out here: [link]

So for this shot Emma shimmied up to the top of that tree so fast you wouldn't believe it to secure the silk. The silk is 18m long so she's dangling about 8m above the creek there with nothing but her feet wound around the silks - no harnesses for these two - just pure skill and experience.

It was just so beautiful watching her work through her routines suspended up in the canopy of the rainforest and just under that rather fortuitous tree fern. Unfortunately I couldn't shoot them working together here as the extreme humidity made it too slippery and dangerous for Steve to be gripping Emma while they both did their routines. But I got them performing together in another section of the rainforest with a smaller drop if one of them lost their grip. Those shots coming shortly.

Technically this was a huge challenge. I needed a fast shutter speed to freeze Em's movement but the light in the rainforest was extremely low. I didn't want to use the flash as it would have flattened out the light more than I wanted so I had to boost the ISO to the max.
