Gone.
Morrigan inhaled sharply as the sickly scent of death washed over her. Her love. She buried her nose in her fur, hoping to catch a whiff of her lavender scent.
Gone.
She didn't know when the tears started, and she wasn't sure they would stop. They came in great, suffocating waves, making her ribs shake as sobs racked her body. She trembled, trying to hold it in, but one glance at her lover's glassy, lifeless eyes made the tears come again. Her vision was tilting, blurring beneath tears that welled like raindrops in a swollen cloud.
Gone.
Morrigan tore her gaze away from her face. She brought it instead to her paws, streaked with blood that wasn't hers, blood she wished desperately had never been shed. She buried her face once more in her lover's belly fur, her stale lavender scent mingling with the coppery smell of blood and the bitter scent of death. She raised her head high, shutting her eyes against the pain and tears, and howled. It was a sound so heart-wrenching and broken anyone who heard it would be lost, if only for a moment, in her pain.
Gone.
A hole opened within her, tears staining the fur on her cheeks, and everything except anger disappeared into it. She took a deep breath and stood, grasping that anger desperately like a lifeline, holding onto it, and pulling strength from it.
She would hunt down the fuckers who did this.
