Description Happy early St. Patricks Day! \o/

Yeah, I couldn't wait. I haven't put up much work in such a long time that it feels like I owe more then I have... So I figured it wouldn't be terrible to put up this St. Patricks Day themed icture up early!

First, let me say a piece about St. Patricks Day:

According to what I know (which isn't much), St. Pat's day is a day to celebrate St. Patrick (duh). He aparently a guy who converted Ireland to Christianity (or something). There's also some story that he drove all the snakes out of Ireland by saying a prayer and useing a shamrock (clover) to explain the father, son and holy spirit of the divine trinity.

Honestly? I don't really understand why it's such a big to-do holiday... there are lots of saints like that who did supposedly wonderous things...

These days though it's hardly considered a calender holiday... at least around here. Stores seem to skip out on St. Patricks Day decoration and go right to Easter. On that note - all the decorations and celebrations seem to be more about Leprechauns (little men who wear green... or something) and pots of gold at the end of rainbows... and beer. Lots of beer. Lots of GREEN beer. Honestly, I don't get it. But hey, any reason to throw a party is a good one in my opinion!

Now onto the picture: I thought about it for awile after I finished Pandora's Valentines Day picture. I didn't wanna draw her as something sterotypical... like a Leprechaun or something. So I ended up looking up Irish dresses. Beyond the beer and beyond the silliness and beyond the Saints it really seems like this is just a day for Irish to celebrate who they are and such. With beer. But besides that! So I wanted to tap into tradition a bit with this one.

I found the traditional womens dress to be a bit... formless... it was hard for me to see any real shape to this dress at all. And with infamiliarity comes weakness in drawings... so unfortunately I think that ended up coming through. It doesn't look at authentic as I'd like it to. Really, alot of it reminded me of a kimono (the sleeves and such). On top of it having no real form... the dress itself looks very plain and even more simple. There's no little details... there's no frills, no lace, no buttons - nothing! Except for the tie around her wasit and the slight poof around the bosum area there really aren't too many "elements" to bring the dress to life. So I tried to add my own little touches to spice it up.

The clovers on her head were meant to look like a sort of crown... but instead I think it looks more like she has moss growing on her head...

And all the green, while I think it looks really nice with the brown of her fur, brings out her red eyes (since green and red or complementary colors). I tried to make her eyes slightly closed so she'd look sot and gentle, like a maiden... but... ehhh... I think they stick out too much. She doesn't look like herself.

ANYWAY! Last thing: the border. I got the celtic knot from a rubber stamp I found on google image search (my favorite tool). I think it might be a bit too thick... I should've made it thinner. Maybe I'll fix it later.

But anywho! I hope you like it. This will be included in Pandora's calender once I finish every holiday

Pandora is copywrite Judy Kocian, which is me, so no stealing!!
