Description
The 27 Amendments
The first amendment describes the right to freedom of speech, press, and petition. It also includes freedom to more personal rights, like religion and assembly.
Te second amendment protects the right to bare arms. This can protect the safety of regular citizens.
The third amendment is the right to no housing soldiers if not willing. This protects the home of citizens.
The fourth amendment protects citizen’s homes from being searched. Only can an official search the home of a suspect with a search warrant.
The Fifth Amendment protects one from such things such as due process and self-incrimination. This protects the right of the person suspected.
The sixth amendment protects the right of the accused. They reserve the right to a speedy trial.
The seventh amendment protects the right to trail by jury. This is especially important in civil cases.
The eighth amendment protects the right of the accused and suspected to have no excessive bail or fines. It also protects the accused from a cruel or unusual punishment.
The ninth amendment takes place when a right was not formally written, or unenumerated rights. This gives power to the states if a new right is needed in the future.
The tenth amendment reserves power to the states. This gives the federal government limited powers.
The eleventh amendment gives immunity to the states by foreign suits. This protects the state from having to give unconstitutional payments.
The twelfth amendment establishes revision of presidential election and procedures.
The thirteenth amendment abolished slavery in the United States. This set all enslaved peoples free.
The fourteenth amendment states the right to citizenship, state due process, and states equal protection for all. This also applies the bill of rights to the states.
The fifteenth amendment protects peoples from racial suffrage. This allows people of all race, gender, religion, to have the right to vote.
The sixteenth amendment protects peoples from federal income taxes. This keeps all peoples from having to pay unfair taxes.
The seventeenth amendment provides direct election to the United States senate.
The eighteenth amendment prevents any Americanized citizen from holding alcohol or drinking it.
The nineteenth amendment gave women the right to vote.
The twentieth amendment protects the term of Commencement for congress and president. This is nicknamed the ‘lame duck’ amendment.
The twenty-first amendment repeals the eighteenth amendment in the US. This allows all citizens to once again hold, drink, or sell liquor and alcohol.
The twenty-second amendment limits the president to only having two terms for office. This allows other candidates to take a chance and allows change for the United States.
The twenty-third amendment gives representation in Washing DC for Electoral College. This is a key part in the presidential election.
The twenty-fourth amendment prohibits poll taxes.
The twenty-fifth amendment states presidential disabilities.
The twenty-sixth amendment lowered the voting age to eighteen.
The twenty-seventh amendment provides Variance of congressional compensation.
