Description Eudemonia has a novel punishment for non-violent criminals - Banishment.

Those who choose this way of shortening their sentences are shunned from society, encased in a second skin of flexible black rubber, sealed for the duration behind a steel helmet, all of it controlled by their Custodian - a neural AI connected directly into their very brains that monitors their every thought and punishes for the slightest infraction.

The citizens call these outcasts Banes, their banesuit becomes their prison, their Custodian the Warden. Unable to communicate with the outside world, all senses muted, incapable of even feeling their surroundings, banes are a common sight on the streets as they watch a world go by that they can no longer participate in - ignored by most, cruelly persecuted by a sadistic few "bane-bashers".

Katrina Nichols is a young reporter determined to expose the cruelty of the Banishment Project, and embarks on a journey into banishment to discover the truth about the Banes - but they have a secret of their own they want to keep hidden from the society that cast them out.

Katrina's path takes her closer to discovering the truth the banes are hiding, a mystery that could lead to her liberation - or her destruction.

Eudemonia and Banes are copyright Β© 2007/2008 Evil Dolly, the original story can be read at Warning: Story contains adult situations .

Embarrassingly - it involves a device stuck up their butts. They have to squat at a feeding station where a hose comes up to the device and handles feeding, waste, and washing inside the suit

Ooo - one more question. What did you use for the helmet? I am guessing its CGI Daz or Poser?

I approached this from the opposite direction. I had previously played with SecondLife and played Bane games having read the story (Made me tear up), then I found this image. LOVE IT!

Hi! I am July and a big fan of the novel. I love to Roleplay the book in SecondLife. I added a picture of me in my banesuit on Facebook and the more 'likes' I have the longer I stay in the banesuit. Doing that I can spread the story of Katrina... Love July

Hiya! Eudeamon is published but only in Italian. As for the rest of my stories, nope, they're only online at the link moonwolf provided. But thank you!

Hi Evil Dolly, glad to find you here as well. (I haven't heard from the publishers in a while in spite of my asking repeatedly for extra copies of the book)

I absolutely love this story, and I hope to work banesuits into my own Torei universe. This image beautifully captures the days of lonely idleness forced upon the lovely creature!

Fantastic story, beautiful artwork. Although, as I imagined it, you couldn't see the sole of the Bane's foot like this. I kind of figured it was flat like a pair of trainers. (sneakers for our US buddies). But then I guess this makes it special, doesn't take away the moment.

Beautiful, lovely representation of katrina's isle, i'm somebody who found Rubbermatt's pictures of Katrina and then found the story, Evil-dolly is an awesome writer.
But i also agree with Xeno-the-hedgehog, the "Eudaemon" story must, absolutely must, either get a Graphic Novel or a Movie, because it provokes so much in people......

Nice one Miika, and nice one Evil-dolly for a beautiful story....

Xeno-the-Hedgehog [2010-03-12 06:13:40 +0000 UTC]

That was one of the most beautiful stories I've ever read. It MUST be given visual representation in its entirety. Graphic novel, movie, series of still images, ANYTHING, but this story DESERVES to be seen.

moonwolf-95 In reply to Xeno-the-Hedgehog [2010-04-27 14:58:15 +0000 UTC]

Kinda hard to do it as a movie when it's all so internal though

Xeno-the-Hedgehog In reply to moonwolf-95 [2010-04-27 15:11:26 +0000 UTC]

What about a graphic novel? The story has some very vivid descriptions of how the banesuit bonds to the body, you can work with that; perhaps showing the latex seeping into the pores of the skin? or a close-up of one of the eyes when the "contacts" are inserted? Perhaps a cutaway view of her facial expression under the helmet during stressful moments? Once you start brainstorming ideas, the answers will come easily.

It's amazingly rich, and the author's own notes on it remark how it ended up with a life of its own.

Enough that it's now a popular theme in Second Life
