Description

Note and Warnings: This is in an alternative universe kind of like HTTYD but in the middle of WW3 (It’s pretty much if the Cold War became a more serious war). Now this story will obviously contain war themes. It will also contain Alcohol and drug use, abuse, toxic relationships, descriptive blood/gore and death. Please leave if you are uncomfortable with these topics. AND @/TURUR DON’T LOG ONTO MOONS WORLD AND REWRITE MOON'S HISTORY>:[

Moon hatched On 2000 October 6 In Germany on the outskirts of Berlin. He, his father, brother and his mother are Eclipsewing’s. The very last few left in the world after the humans slaughtered most of them. The rest were in hiding or being used by the humans for fighting war, entertainment or working. The other two tribes that live on Earth currently are Lightingwings and Shapeshifters. It is unknown how many dragons are left in the world as a whole but the amount captive is about 50.

Moon's first memory was of cracking, a bright light and two dragons. One was dark gray with white talons. That was father, he knew without knowing. And the other was jet black with glittering blue eyes. That was Mother. She looked down upon him with nothing but spite in her glittering blue eyes. He was never wanted, he was just a mistake in her eyes. His mother leaned down and poked him sharply in the snout, drawing a small bead of blood. The little dragonet squawked and bit the other dragon's claw hard. His mother snorted and threw him away like he was just a bug. He landed with a light thud and he scrambled upright. His father was standing over him leaning down to look at him. He had blood-red eyes and a long snout that gently nudged the dragonet. The dragonet squeaked and headbutted his father's snout. His father snorted in amusement and gently held the dragonet. “Why do we have to care for that ugly-looking worm?” His mother sniffed “he looks nothing like an Eclipsewing!” His father growled and wrapped a wing around his son. “He is our son and one of the few last dragonets hatching this year!” He looked back down at his son and cracked a small smile “Also remember It takes 3 years for Eclipsewing dragonets to grow into their scale color.” His father let him down onto the floor again and the dragonet sat down looking from him to his mother. He was confused and did not know what his parents were talking about, but he knew one thing. He did not like his mother at all. The way she looked at him with loathing hate and the way she tried to get rid of him. “What will his name be?” Father asked, turning his head to Mother. She scowled at him and turned away. “I’m not naming that mistake!” She spat before stalking away out of the cave. Father sighed and looked at him. “Your name will be Moon. Moonreader. You will grow up and do amazing things for this world, I know it.” He touched snouts with Moon before laying down. Moon snuggled next to his father and noticed for the first time his own moon-white scales. They gleamed in the light and made him look like a ghost. Moon closed his eyes and let the darkness take him.

6 years later…

Moon had the average life of a dragon these days. Hunt, eat, sleep and repeat. Currently, he lives with his mother, Swiftstrike and his brother, Comet. Comet was 3 years older than Moon but the two got along extremely well. As for Moon’s father, Silver he was captured by Soviet soldiers when he and Moon went hunting. Moon’s memory was hazy but he still remembered his father's resigned face as he was chained up and dragged away by the Soviets. His mother on the other hand was lazy and messy. She constantly fought with Comet. Once when Moon tried to stop a fight between his mother and brother, Swiftstrike gave him a good nose scar to remind him to never intervene. Other than that, she was lazy and never did anything, and Moon knew she wasn’t grieving over his father's death as she was like this when he was alive. A selfish and entitled dragon who thinks she needs to do nothing. Comet and Moon always hunted for all of them and cleaned whatever place they were staying in. They even went to one of the underground bars to get their mother wine. But no matter what they did she never took care of them or helped them.

Moon woke up at dawn. His mother slept in one of the corners of the rundown house they had taken refuge in. His brother was curled up next to him, his chest rising and falling steadily. His brother must be pretty tired after taking the night watch, but Moon knew that half of Comet’s mind was still awake so he was able to hear if anyone or anything was approaching them. He got up and walked out into the house. There was smoke covering the sky and he could smell burning plastic. WW3 had been going on for years before Moon himself was born. Comet had told him many times that humans never find peace in what they have and they always look for more, which leads to more war. The fact that there were 3 global wars, Moon just felt anger built up inside him.

Humans are just greedy monsters that do anything to get what they want. He thought with contempt. The dirt underfoot was covered in human bones, metal scraps and dents. There was no way he would find food here. He took off into the sky and quietly gilded farther away from the war zone hoping to find something for his family. He spotted a flicker of movement and he hovered looking down. It was a small army camp that the humans used. Soldiers moved between tents. Some of the humans exchanged a few words before walking around the camp or going into one of the tents. Tanks were settled nearby. From the way they were made, he guessed they were American and British tanks. Probably going to fight the Soviet Union again

Moon thought with a soft sigh. Not wanting to be spotted he flew off leaving the humans to fight whatever battle they were going off to. Moon never bothered the humans but he was tempted to. He finally reached a clearing with grass and trees. The perfect place to find any scrap of prey. He landed and pricked his ears up, listening for any sounds. He heard small paws scrabbling on a tree trunk near him. He turned around slowly and saw a scrawny squirrel. He leapt forward and slammed a talon down on the squirrel's neck. It fell limp as it died. He scarfed it down in a few bites before he walked around the clearing again trying to find something else to bring back home. He searched with no luck other than the stale smell of a fox. Shaking his head he lifted off into the sky and flew back to the house.

When he got back to the house he saw that his mother was lying in a sun patch, lazily drowsing there with a wine bottle next to her. Letting out a snort of disgust he flew into the house and landed. He saw his brother's familiar gray scales and amber eyes. He was crouched over a rabbit and was eating. Upon Moon's arrival, he looked up. “Good morning.” His brother nodded to a second rabbit. Moons crouched down beside his brother and ate his rabbit. “Any luck hunting?” Comet asked, continuing to take big chunks out of the rabbit. “All I got was a scrawny squirrel, which I ate,” Moon said, taking another bite out of his rabbit. “Better luck next time,” Comet said with a small nod. The brothers sat in silence for a bit, finishing their rabbits. “So are we going to move again?” Moon asked stretching and yawning. Comet gave him a brisk nod. “I found a cave near a meadow. Good for prey, the only problem is that it's near the Soviet border.” Moon let out a puff of smoke. “If it means we get food for a good while then I will take it. The problem is dragging our mother there.” Comet nodded. “Come on. Let's go to the tavern and get a glass of water.” Comet got up and Moon followed suit. They passed Swiftstrike as they walked out of the house. Before she asked them where they were going they took off and flew toward the tavern. Since dragons could not be seen by humans, in fear of being captured and forced to work for them, it was underground. They flew for a while making small talk as they did. The ground below slowly turned into grass dotted with small flowers. This beautiful place wouldn’t last long, but he could enjoy it while it was here. Finally, they reached a small hill that slopped up then down. They rolled a dead tree log over and soon uncovered a small trap door that a dragon could easily slip into. They lifted it up and entered a cramped, stone tunnel that was dimly lit. It smelled stale and unpleasant. They walked through the tunnel, keeping their wings closely tucked in. After a bit, they emerged into a well-lit cavern. It smelled like cigarettes and beer. Dragons were sitting around tables, talking and relaxing. At the far end of the cave, there was a counter with two dragons behind it. Bottles of different drinks were lined up on the wall. Comet and Moon walked over to the counter and found two stools for them to sit on. One of the dragons named Shade walked up to them and dipped her head slightly. “Hello, Comet, Moon. What may I get you guys today?” “Two glasses of water and a bottle of wine,” Moon said. She nodded and grabbed two plastic cups with caps, then twisted a tab on a barrel. A stream of clean water fell out of the metal nozzle into the two cups. Shade handed them one cup each before grabbing a bottle of red wine. “Have a safe flight you two.” Shade said before she went to a lightingwing who was seated beside them. Moon and Comet walked out of the bar and back out into the sunlight. Moon perked his ears up. He could hear a low rumbling slowly getting closer. Comet looked over Moon's shoulder. “There is an army camp nearby,” He reported “Get out and glide away. Hopefully, they won’t see us.” Moon slipped out of the tunnel and glided away. The midday sun provided almost no shadows and Moon's dark scales would stick out like a broken wing but he just had to fly and hope that he didn’t get seen. He was able to fly up into the sky and into the clouds where he would be able to be covered for a while. Looking at the camp he realized why they hadn’t seen him. All of the soldiers were in their tents. The low rumble came from a tank that had been left on. Puffing out a sigh of relief he watched Comet winged up to him. “Come on, let's head back to the house.” His brother said before they flew off, into the clouds laughing and playfully nudging each other in the sky.
