Here is the 58th page of my Explorer's Notebook for the Animal of the Month Event at : the Hirola!

This wonderful and peculiar-looking antelope is often called "the four-eyed antelope" because of the dark glands it has under its eyes. These glands are used to mark their territories and, with their ridged horns and their white "glasses", are one of the features that make the Hirola so special and recognizable.

Sadly, it's almost extinct, even if the latest news is kind of reassuring: In the beginning of the 2000s, there were maybe only 300 to 500 hirolas left in the world, all in the wild and there was no zoo with a breeding program. Mostly, their decline was due to poaching, civil war, loss of habitat and elephant poaching (Elephants eat plants that tend to invade zones where grass that is good for Hirolas grow). Some Kenyan organizations decided that on-site help was needed and they created a huge fenced and predator-proof sanctuary in which they put 48 hirolas. Apparently, the antelopes breed well and the situation, even if it's far from being good, is at least encouraging...
