Here is the 65th page of my Explorer's Notebook for the Animal of the Month Event at : the Spectacled Bear!!!

OMG I've had the photo cropped and ready on my computer for 5 days, and I was so sure I had uploaded it my brain seems foggy... I blame the brain-exhausting task of finding personal presents for our families

Anyway, this bear is so beautiful... and very unique, like the "spectacles" it has on its face... The light-colored markings are different for each bear, just like fingerprints! And they don't always look like spectacles, surprisingly...
Spectacled bears live in mountains and cloud forests of South America, are highly adaptable and omnivorous. The males are about a third larger than the females, and up to twice their weight, hence the 2 bears beside "me" on the lower right corner... The spectacled bear is endangered, mainly because of poaching and habitat loss... there are programs, notably in Panama, to help them, but the political situations in the countries they live in don't offer the ideal environments for the programs to take off... However, spectacled bears are quite discreet and they're among the best tree climbers in the bear family, so maybe that will help...
