Description Drow

Description: Drow, mistakenly called "dark elves", are a group you'd hate to compare to their forest counterparts. Drow live in matriarchal societies and their women are definitely the more forceful gender. Their time underground has left them shorter than elves, but they are the stronger and more muscularly built of the two. They are notable for their cunning and a degree of arrogance that makes forest elves look servile. Many of them are also pranksters, though their brand of humor isn't one everyone can appreciate.

Culture: Drow are a subterranean species that carved settlements deep underground and all but disappeared after the war's end. Recently they've begun to reappear on Noverra's surface, hooded and cloaked against the sun.

Their time in a harsh subterranean has left them with a darwinistic mentality of survival of the fittest. They are merciless of weakness in others or any kind of failure, and possess a fiercely determined and ruthless mindset. This is accompanied by a hefty dose of cunning and resourcefulness to help them along.

Drow are the species most naturally skilled at dark magic and they produce more dark magicians than any other species in Noverra. Whether this has to do with their rumored origins is anyone's guess. While many see them as evil, this is mistaken; they'd rather serve themselves than any diabolical cause.

Origin: Drow first started appearing after the advent of the Demigod, during the war. Some believe that they are the results of a distant colony of elves that fell prey to mental and magical corruption, a suggestion that insults both drow and their elven forebears.

Avg. Lifespan: They live up to 500 years. At 150 they are young, at 250 they are middle-aged and at 400 they are old.

Avg. Height: 5'8" (165 cm) - 7'2" (218 cm)

Blonde drow are a no go, sorry. They could always dye their hair if you'd like I suppose though.

All the kingdoms are relatively new so they haven't been around for long. However, The Karsh Drow have been under the mines of the Fissure for a long enough time that Rauv was born there.

While I can't give you an exact age for the capital, it isn't terribly old. Definitely under a decade. If you're intent on making a drow character for Karsh, I'd suggest you read up on the info section of King Grabby [link] and Rauv's [link] apps, as they detail how the drow came to be in Karsh in the first place.

alsdkfja fff thanks! ; v ; I'm glad you do

And of course they can! Normal elves are very skilled at archery so I don't think it would be completely unheard of for some drow to be good at it, considering their lineage. Welcome, and hope it helps!

Okay commencing text bricks.

Drow had been living underground and building settlements there after the war but after some time they basically just decided that the surface was another place they could go so why the hell not? Mostly they’d appear on the surface in small groups, scope out the area and go back down to their homes. Or in the case of Karsh, a bunch of goblins broke into a drow's home and that's what led to that group's reintegration into society.

I doubt a drow parent would be overly cruel with their child, but they’d teach them self-sufficiency from a young age. They’d start teaching their kids how to survive as soon as they could walk and talk and wouldn’t teach ‘em twice; they would assume the child would catch on. Drow don’t molly coddle their kids. How strict or harsh or whatever you want your character’s parents to be is up to you.

Considering that no one lives as deep underground as most drow communities and drow ARE snobs, they wouldn’t mingle much with other races unless they were born in a kingdom with other races, and even then they’d think themselves better than all others. They especially would not associate themselves with elves.

Drow aren't institutionally taught any magic. Dark magic is simply the kind that they are most naturally talented at, as opposed to say magic falling under the sun god's domain (fire magic, earth magic, etc) or the moon god's domain (healing, water magic, etc). Some might learn by themselves, others might have teachers, but it's not like every drow parent is going to sit their child down and force it down their throat.

I'd also expect that a fair amount of the drow population would learn weaponry. They’d prefer close-range meelee weapons like swords or knives though. Archery would only be frowned upon because it’s a ranged weapon and it’s favoured by elves.

Right now I can’t draw up a chart but to give a rough measure of youth, 150 is equal to like early 20s. If you tell me how old you intend your character to be I can tell you around how old they’d be in drow years.

Lastly, short hair is fine! C:

150 is equal to about 21, so you'd be looking at somewhere between 125 to 150.

Nah, there isn't. Try to pick something, well... fantasy-sounding, If you need suggestions or help, I am pretty sure if google "drow names", there'll be some lists or generators that pop up. If not, baby name sites are always a good bet. o v o b
