For those of you who don't know yet.DUMBLEDORE WAS GAY! (lol XD) JKRowling said it herself.

2,000 lucky fans had the opportunity to interact with JK Rowling this evening at Carnegie Hall. The reading was rather eventful, as Jo revealed a lot of new information previously unknown about the series.
The most notable news of the night was the revelation of Dumbledore's sexuality. Jo says Dumbledore was gay and in love with Gellert Grindelwald. JK, in response to the audience's reaction, said "If I had known this would have made you so happy, I would have told you years ago."

I was shocked when I heard that on the news.
But even though they say its a big step for gay rights, I think she did it randomly to get a rise out of everyone. lol

Normally I'd agree on the publicity stunt idea, especially with the timing, but it's not like she just spouted the info randomly. Someone asked her directly: "Did Dumbledore ever fall in love?", so she answered truthfully. *shrugs* Looking at the circumstances, it doesn't look like she planned "Hmm, my books are over and I need people to pay attention to me. Hey! How about I reveal something controversial about an important character!"

Oh I know it wasn't because of that.
And I know it wasn't completely random.
But people are saying how she's contributing to the GLBT community and I just don't agree with it, being from that community. I don't see how it's helping us politically, if it wasn't really mentioned and no one really caught that he was gay, you know?
I think that the news itself is just blowing it out of proportions.

I think that's kind of the whole point, that it wasn't a huge deal. I mean, usually when people write gay characters, being gay is their purpose in the novel, you know? She wrote a gay character whose purpose was to be wise and powerful and teacherly... and just a little bit gay. I think it helps that people finally have a realistic popular gay figure.

In book 7 (the last one) they're on-the-run from bad guys, and a book comes out about Dumbledore called "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore" which Harry reads and starts questioning how well he actually knew his headmaster. Lockheart was an air headed proffesser, charmed a lot of ladies, and was very self important, so the joke is maybe now it makes sense why Dumbledore hired him *wink wink*
