Description Fifteen! FIFTEEN sketches over the last 6 days. which is kind of a lot

So, I tried to post them in PAGE order. The dates aren't in chronological order, but the page numbers are for the most part. It gets a little messed up in the middle because I was trying to figure out the most efficient way to fit everything in the Photoshop file, but it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out which picture came first XD

I'm going to post a few notes about each individual picture, so if you don't care to read them, skip to the end The numbers below correspond to the blue numbers on the image above.

----------

1.) Toothless! Just a simple profile headshot. I watched 'How to Train your Dragon' right after I got back from buying the sketchbook, so I kind of had to draw him XD

2.) The only thing I could think of when drawing this was how much he looks like Mewtwo in this picture. Seriously, after I sketched out the eyes and the muzzle, that's all I could see. He still doesn't look like an angry Toothless to me, I just see Mewtwo

3.) ANGRY TOOTHLESS again. Everyone always sees him as a really cute and adorable dragon. And he is. But at the beginning of the movie, he was the most feared and the most deadly... So I had to have him in kind of a menacing pose, since I've never drawn him like this before

4.) Common Dolphins and Atlantic White-Sided Dolphins are the only species of dolphin to have yellow markings (which you can't see in this picture, so look them up on google if you really care to see how they look ) I just kind of wanted to compare the two species. I realize after posting this that my Atlantic White-Sided Dolphin's head is a little disproportionate, but it's too late to fix it now XD

5.) Toothless again

6.) If a dragon really looked like that, his spine would probably snap. However, this is just a drawing, therefore the dragon doesn't exist, which means I can draw it however I want I had a lot of fun with this one

7.) I kind of have a few characters way back in my gallery that I forget about sometimes this is Diedrick, my wolf-gryphon character, who I definitely need a ref sheet for once I have time to make one.

8.) Lion profile I only have like, 1 or 2 lions in my gallery that aren't 'The Lion King' styled, so I wanted to do a more realistic representation.

9.) Random dragon that I don't really like the outcome of I had fun drawing the wings though.

10.) A snake/dragon creature thing I was just kind of messing around with a random creature design. I really like how this one turned out

11.) A not-yet-finished page I drew a young tigress and a jumping mountain lion... I wanted to have a cheetah headshot in that empty space, but I haven't gotten around to it yet

12.) THIS ONE WAS KIND OF FOR *Lyreice !!! I'm planning on getting a literature commission from them, but I had to draw out some character interaction first. It's Morgana and Kaito Morgana is about as tall as an average female human being, so Kaito is actually a tiny little thing, only about the size of a housecat X3 It's probably a bit hard to tell, but Kaito has kind of this sarcastic/flirty look on his face, and Morgana wants nothing to do with him. Kaito hangs around with Morgana all the time, and she's usually not too thrilled about it. She finds him pretty irritating XD Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to get the message... So once I actually send you my commission information, it'll have something to do with these two

13.) THYLACINE'S! I haven't drawn them IN SOOOO LONG. And, besides the dinosaurs, thylacines are my favorite extinct animals I was doing some anatomy practice, since I'm not very good at drawing them. As you can see, I still need some work, but overall, I'm happy with the result This page is more square than the others because the lower 1/3 of the page was empty and I needed room for other stuff

14.) Just some wolves. Again, there's some empty space because I was planning on adding more but haven't gotten around to it yet XD Recently, I realized I kind of suck at realistic wolf anatomy. I can do 'Blackblood Alliance' style wolves okay, but realistically, I'm not very good So I've been trying to get a feel for how wolves ACTUALLY look. And then I just threw in a random headshot of Night, because I don't draw her much

15.) Another random dragon, this time with a mix of eastern/western anatomy. This is the only drawing from today because I was distracted by a really good book, so I did that during most of my down time today instead of sketching, like I usually do

----------

AAAAND THAT'S IT! I hope you guys enjoyed these doodles! This is my first real sketchdump, and I had a lot of fun putting this together. Maybe every few weeks from now on I'll start posting a compilation of the artwork I do outside of commissions. Who knows!

Let me know what you think! ;D

Do you have a wing tutorial? I am doing a project for my animations class that has a dragon in it but, I can't draw the wings right... If you can't, any suggestions?

I don't have one up at the moment. Sorry! When is your animation due? I might be able to draw one up in a couple of days if you want some pointers

In the meantime, here are a couple tutorials I found that might be of some help to you: [link] [link] and bird wings: [link] I'm assuming you're planning on going with a traditional "bat-like" wing instead of a feathered one, but I'd still recommend the last tutorial to help you figure out different angles and such If you can find any slow-motion videos of birds and bats in flight (on youtube or something,) those might come in handy too

Good luck! Let me know if you need anything else. I'd be happy to help!

Wow, that's a lot of work. I love the way you draw toothless, and that's one of the best Easter dragons I've seen in a while.x3 That snakedragon is cool too, and I like the lion head. You also do cool Eastern-Western cross breeds well.X3 And I love the picture of Kaito and Morgana.X3 Is so cute. I want to know more about them.X3 Kaito looks like the romancer who just can't cut it.x3 I love how you explained them in the little thing. It'll really help when I have to write about them. Great work on all of these.

Yeah, this is usually how I spend my study hall every day XD Unless there's a really important school assignment I need to work on instead...

I'm glad you like them! I'm planning on doing a few more doodles of Morgana and Kaito before I commission you, but hopefully this gives you a basic idea of how they interact with eachother.

Thanks again! X3

what's blackblood alliance?

It was a really popular comic by *KayFedewa a few years back Here's the first page if you want to read it: [link]

I think her art is beautiful, but her wolves aren't exactly anatomically correct. When I first started drawing wolves, I based them off of her style instead of real wolves, and now it's really hard for me to draw them realistically

I still like her art though XD

ahh, I see. almost a Balto style?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Morgan-Michele In reply to xRia [2011-02-20 04:50:11 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's pretty similar

I like the style, but when you're trying to draw realistically, it's not the best thing to reference from.
