Description stand out and smile!
once in a while...

if only i could follow that direction myself...

edit: thanks for comments and favs that certainly puts a smile on my face

*Photospin (Photospin is a stock website for professionals and agencies)

edit 2013 I received a msg earlier today through another page that I got a DD for this piece. It's been quite a while I haven't been to DA and I'm a member here since 10,5 long years so I felt the urge to reply as too many people are making their own facts about how overused this work is or why I used a stock photo or why there's a watermark, etc. I did this in 2008 so I do not care about the overuse and this is not photography and I do AD designs and I do not necessarily take photos for every single piece that I work on and yes, people do steal this work whether you like it or not. Apart from that, thanks for all the comments (good or bad) and favs. Have a nice day everyone.

PS: "It's so simple, I could have done it" So why haven't you done??

edit 2014 I photographed and designed a re-Smile versionΒ morgueprincess.deviantart.com/…

Nice work! I really like the expressions-- especially that of the smiling egg. It's a bit odd and quirky, but that's what helps set it apart from the rest of them, eh? I also like the fact that this picture has a flexible, symbolic nature to it. One could interpret it as staying optimistic even when things seem bleak. Another could see it as the survival of individuality. Even if the majority looks the same (Which tends to occur with every passing fashion trend), acts the same, speaks the same, etc, one can still save their own individuality. As long as they remember not to bury it in an attempt to conform, they'll still retain their own distinct self. So while everyone else is frustrated and depressed by not being the perfect example of what's accepted as beautiful and normal, the one who embraces their differences can smile on.

Congratulations on getting a DD.

I dont like some things that get a DD but i dont complain about em and say negative things on someones work.
why not? because its flat out stupid to comment on something you dont like that wont change , its a waste of time
Its rude & I wouldnt like someone to do it to me if I gotten a Daily Deviation Feature.
Its not like DDs come to your inbox or something & everyone knows the artist doesnt ask for the feature
Just dont look at it

Congrats on the DD

I'm so sorry you're getting idiotic comments from people who can't seem to understand the concept of this picture or anything you wrote int he description.
I honestly really like it and I don't think it's 'overused' it's HOW you use it.
I honestly think it's worth a DD. DD's don't have the be the BEST DRAWING, CONCEPT OR IMAGE I'VE EVER FUCKING SEEN. They are just features. I wish DA would give more DD's to lesser known artists who aren't the best in the world so this stupid concept of you have to have the best art or the best concept in the world to get a DD.

If you continuously to get annoying messages from those who have a problem I suggest you either block them/hide their comment or remove comments all together.
I just want to remind you that you have those options if things are getting too out of hand <3
Good day to you and I wish you the best of your life off DA

The picture is not bad at all. I'm not saying it is, but this doesn't deserve DD. All you did was slap faces on an existing picture and add the word Smile at the bottom. This concept has been done a thousand times over, and just feels like it's beating a dead horse. Again, I'm not saying it's bad, just there is so much art out there that took way more effort than this that are much more deserving of a DD. This getting one makes the whole idea of Daily Deviants seem like a joke.

nine-girls-red In reply to Low-Ryder [2013-03-22 02:41:08 +0000 UTC]

I understand the frustration of seeing something get a DD which you don't think deserves it, I've felt that way in the past, but you need to understand that the artist didn't ask for it. Somebody else suggested it, and the artist had no say in the matter. So lecturing the artist about the image's qualifications is just.. pointless. She didn't ask for the DD, so explaining to her why you don't think she deserves it is sort of a waste of your own time for writing it, and her time for reading it.

This is the place that will tell you how to submit a complaint if you feel that seriously about it.

Exactly.
This artist needs to calm down..
And the artist around her need to calm down.
We are voicing our opinions on this peice.

This is a critique site.
Besides, we can't be nice all the time..

Low-Ryder In reply to El3ctro-Mess [2013-03-22 01:44:54 +0000 UTC]

Agreed on all fronts. If you post something here, especially something that's going to get a lot of attention, ecpect critiquing. And the whole "keep negative comments off of DDs" thing is bullshit. A DD should not be treated differently and have it's own rules just because it's a DD. If anything it should be critiqued more because of that.

This is why I feel there should be a voting system for DDs, so pieces that take little to no effort like this one won't trump ones that are more deserving, and the artist spent some real effort on.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 3

Owl-Flight In reply to Low-Ryder [2013-03-22 03:11:45 +0000 UTC]

yes, it is a critique site, but that was in no way a critique. It was just someone bashing on a 5 year old piece that got a DD (without the artist asking or even knowing until he/she was told) He/she knew they didn't put much effort in it, and if they could chose any one of their deviations to get a DD it probably wouldn't be this one. It's quite obvious that not much effort was put into it but it's not meant to be some great artistic feat, it's a joke something to put a smile on your face.

DD's are chosen stupidly and commenting on the ones you don't like wont change that. I agree that a voting system would be amazing but rudely commenting (comment, not critique, no one in their right mind would say "this doesn't deserve a DD you put no effort into it" is a crit) isn't going to get that to happen. How about you go note some of the people who manage DDs?

nine-girls-red In reply to Low-Ryder [2013-03-22 02:42:59 +0000 UTC]

Sorry to comment to you a second time, but I didn't notice this comment before and I really feel the need to respond. Critiquing a deviation is perfectly fine, but you should be critiquing the content- your original comment was just complaining about the fact that it got a DD, which was outside the artist's control. Critique a piece all you want, that only helps the artist grow afterall, but when your remark is centered around something that the artist had no control over you're not contributing anything worthwhile.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

El3ctro-Mess In reply to Low-Ryder [2013-03-22 01:57:41 +0000 UTC]

I said the same thing when someone posted the rules about DDs to me. I get critized all the time and I don't expect there to be special rules for artist getting featured.
True again. Accept the critism instead of calling it whining. It was like the pinkie pie voting DD. the artist ignored the bad comments and everything was fine.

That is a good idea. But DA never takes our advice such as changing the submit page..
Actually they are really slow on banning people too. It is sad.

You drew faces on eggs (takes two minutes) and added a meme to it. And using the computer is even better..I mean..you could've bought eggs and put faces on it. It would've been more interesting.
Their are many other artist that have amazing works never put as a daily devaition.

it is not photography, it is an ad design. i dont have to take a photo. let alone, i dont have to do anything different to make a work better with the same concept. the theme is the idea + it is not a meme. it is called "typography"

El3ctro-Mess In reply to morgueprincess [2013-03-21 22:04:47 +0000 UTC]

That isn't typography.
And I suggest you credit the stock images creator. -.-
Well obviously the theme is the idea I am not dumb.
I am just making a point. Calm down.
I was giving critism. Creative critism.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

morgueprincess In reply to El3ctro-Mess [2013-03-21 22:11:45 +0000 UTC]

creative criticism?? did you even have a look at my works that you give me a lesson about typography and advertising? I do not need to take long time on it. I had the stock in my folder and I looked at it in 2008 and came up with the idea and yes it took me 10 mins or less and in the end I did what I wanted to do with it. Which part of it bothers you? That I didn't spend 45 mins instead of 10 or that I did not use my camera but a stock which is a regular thing for designs.

and the stock image is marked over there. it is PHOTOSPIN it is not a person, it is a website for professionals and advertising agencies.

if you think i'm not creative enough, that is your point of view but what you criticize has nothing to do with ad designing. And I did not even ask for a DD, I do not even check my profile or submit anymore. All these people come here and whine about why it is chosen, well that's life, tomorrow is a new day. And I couldn't care less. Really.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 3

morgueprincess In reply to morgueprincess [2013-03-22 00:17:39 +0000 UTC]

I'm not an DA. I left this place years ago. I've been a member so long and I even worked here. I did not only submit ad designs, I deleted most of my works. So I do not need you or others giving me pep talks about designing or deviantart or else. I did not even know about this until the admin msged me from my page somewhere else. Some people always deserve something more than others, so what? Go and tell that to admins. Not every person likes what you like and you won't like what others like. They liked it and chose it. Simple. I and too many artists left this place cause we were bored of seeing the same old primary school level manga drawings and unicorns. I simpley left instead of whining.

As for not caring, no I don't care. I reply to some people like yourself to explain some things. Over and over in this case. And I even find in myself the most "nonsensity" of replying at this place where I do not even submit anything anymore. Esp to people who are my half age drawing bizarre unicorns.

What the hell with this "I don't use stock images" thing with people? Use or don't use.. I don't care. That's your decision. I do not have to give subtitles for people to understand. The company who hired me paid money to get whatever stock I want from Photospin and I write it however I want. Taking a photo of eggs will not make me a better artist.

And I repeat again, I did it in 2008. I also don't care if it became fashionable during the past few years. I did not do it to earn a DD.

* I cannot see any criticism, all I see is whining about things that I explained repeatedly (work from 2008 - calling it "overdone lately," calling typography a meme, asking why I used a stock image for an ad design). This is not criticism. Saying that one does not find it good enough for a DD is a personal opinion and since I did not promote this work, it does not bother me. Everyone has different opinions. Get some facts right.

With that kind of attitude I have no clue why you are even on DA.
This isn't advertisement site I may let you know.
It is sad how you really don't understand why I have problems.
So many other artist deserve this one chance to get noticed.
People who spend tons of time on their art and never get recognized.
But you are just another one of those people who don't understand...
I guess I shouldn't be lecturing you since my art isn't the best..but come on.
And if you really don't care about the comments of people "whining" as you put it your shouldn't even be commenting to them and only to the positive thinkers.
And again, I don't think the idea is bad.
But whatever.
And this concept has been used so many times.
Just me. I rambling on about nothing really because you are obviously just going to protest about your opinion even more.
