Personality:
Quiet, reserved, and rather vain, Kohl is intelligent, cunning, and sly. He's very strategic in everything; always going about conversations, duties, and anything else in an orderly manner. He's a tad OCD, getting snappish and annoyed when someone messes up his orderliness. Despite his obvious squareness, he's also free spirited. He hates being tied down and considers himself very creative. In truth, he is. He makes up songs and poems about everything; the Pharaoh, his mood, the city, anything and everything. He enjoys beauty in everything, whether it;s a pretty Concubine, a beautiful day, or music he enjoys. He loves them all. Interestingly, he considers himself one of those beautiful things in life. He's very arrogant and vain, convinced that everyone wants to know/love/be near him. Despite this, he's actually a good guy at heart. If one were to be his friend, they'd find him loyal, protective, and a good listener. Since he doesn't talk much, they might not get to know much about him, but he'd make it a point to listen and consider everything they said.
He treats lower class cats rather well, though he would snap at them if they messed up his orderliness, like anyone else. Really, the only cat he wouldn't snap at is the Pharaoh or the Queen. He's not good with authority otherwise, but is sure to apologize if he offends any upper class felines.

Brief backstory:
Coming from a long line of Guards, he grew up looking up to his father's rank. He loves the honor that they got, and was constantly asking his father about what he did. Since he was a kit, he always knew what he wanted to do with his life; protect the Pharaoh, just like his father, and his father before him etc. When he came of age, he immediately went into training to be a Guard. When he proved himself, he finally achieved the rank he had been wanting for so long. Soon afterwards, though, his father was killed protecting the Pharaoh. This crushed Kohl's spirit; sure, he knew he might have to give his life to protect the Pharaoh one day, but he was dispirited knowing that his father was gone from his life forever. He made it a point afterwards to always be as attentive as possible, to save anyone else from the fate his father had received. This is the reason for his protective side; he doesn't want to see anyone close to him hurt, ever again.
Other:
He loves to sing; but he'd never admit it. He makes sure no one's around when he sings, and guards this secret like he does the Pharaoh.
He loves his cape. He'd never give it up, no matter who asked him to; not even the Pharaoh. As far as he's concerned, that cape is a part of him.
He hates sand. Ironic considering where he lives, but he hates them. He hates the feeling of sand in his fur, and makes it a point to stay inside when able.
He likes Concubines. Not because of what they do, but he thinks they are pretty. He's one of those toms who appreciates beauty, inside and out.
He's also fond of dancers and their beauty; mainly because when he watches dancing he feels the urge to sing along to the music and rhythm, but he never gives into this urge. Well, not when he's in public, at least.
He considers himself an improvisational poet. He makes up songs and poems in his mind, wherever he happens to me. He puts music to them in private and sings them when he's alone.
He's very fond of the dark markings under his eyes; the markings that resemble the dark makeup that some cats wear to shield their eyes from the sun. They are his namesake; Kohl.

Kohl sat, on the right side of the Pharaoh's yellow eyes trained on the palace before him. He watched silently as the various palace workers went about their duties, eyes following any that strayed too close to the door in which his ward was in. He didn't know what the Pharaoh was doing; it wasn't his business. What his business was was keeping the Pharaoh safe. A messenger walked to close, and Kohl watched him warily, ready to pounce if necessary. The messenger continued on, and Kohl allowed himself to relax slightly. His thoughts wandered; various poetic phrases and music filtering through his mind. Mostly it was about random things he heard and saw in the Palace;
I am quiet as I sit here
Thoughts Abound
Watching the Palace bustle
Listening to the sound
I see the servants hustle
Seeing the dancers seem to fly
Hearing my cape rustle
Concubines bat their pretty eyes-
Kohl's poetic thoughts were interrupted when a palace servant almost walked into him. His lip curled into a silent snarl, and he watched warily as they backed away, eyes never leaving him. When the reached the edge of a branching hallway, then all but turned and fled. A small sense of satisfaction washed over him; he was doing his job rather well, he thought. He continued his poem, and this time he sang in his head.

In this hallway that's rather narrow
