"Do you know what love is?"

I turned from the TV screen, and paused the simulation Zack and I had run through moments before I was attacked from behind by a Grand Horn.

"Love?" I started blandly. "Like the feeling? Or bubbly girls and hearts and sparkles?"

Zack laughed at that, walking out of the kitchen. He placed a hand on the sofa and vaulted over it, landing right beside me while snatching the remote out of my hand.

"That's a girl's version of love, I think." He mused. "But, the feeling. What would you say love feels like?" I propped my head on my right arm, putting the elbow on the chair's arm.

"Love…I would guess is…indescribable for the most part. A want to be by that person, to make them happy. To stay by their side through thick and thin, and keep their wants above yours…?" Zack wrapped his arm around my neck and jerked me closer to him, leaning down to whisper.

"What I think love is is the need to protect, to please and pleasure. To keep that person happy in anyway possible, and express the happiness that person would give me, just by being by my side." He grinned, lips pressed on the skin behind my ear.

"Do you want to know what I feel when I think of you, Cloud?" he breathed out softly, and I shivered, blinking when he turned the recording back on. "I was so proud watching you fight these monsters off. The Gagighandi Lizards are more than a Trooper can usually handle you know." The movie got to the part where a Grand Horn tried to attack me from behind, and Zack let out a slow breath. "When I come to defeat the Grand Horn, watch my face." He ordered softly, and I continued watching, cringing when I had to throw myself forward to avoid the monster's Grand Punch. I land wrong and are unable to move in time as the Grand Horn advances…then Zack jumps into the simulation, killing the Grand Horn with a single stab into its neck.

Zack's face…he's furious, concerned, proud…worried.

"When I think of Cloud, the first feeling I get I pride. You've come so far from the rejected teenager I first met, you know. Second, is a need to protect, because no matter how far you've gotten…there are still things stronger out there. Third, is lust." I shivered as Zack breathed onto my ear again, and squirmed.

Zack only chuckled at me.

"Beautiful, gorgeous Cloud, all pretty pretty sapphire and gold, milky white and cream…just want to eat you up…" Zack moved, pinning me back to the sofa while he hovered over me, my body situated between his thighs.

"I had a thought yesterday, Cloud Strife. All these feelings I have for you…can I simplify things and
say I love you?" My breath escaped me as I stared up at him with wide eyes. "You are beautiful to me, women would flirt but all I can think when they flutter their eyelashes are that Cloud's eyes have so much more depth; when they accidently brush against me how you felt under me last night…" I flushed. "When the Grand Horn attacked you, it felt like my heart stopped. There wasn't a thought between seeing you on the ground, and me killing it. Not a one." Zack leaned forward, almost close enough to kiss staring into my eyes.

"You don't have to say it, Cloud. I just wanted you to know, I guess I've taken that next step." He nipped my neck lightly, and I wrapped my arms around his neck, closing my eyes.

"So…I think I know what love is. You just have to figure it out soon."
