Meg. Gosh I love her. she says they best things. But she would be able to handle this, and what kind of woman would want to be a damsel in distress? Oh I am useless, save me. No I won’t be able to handle anything on my own, I am too fragile in my femininity oooh help, I need a big strong hero…
To be saved when one is in trouble or get a hand when one just can’t do it one-self is grand, I grant you. But Damsels…yeeesh…
Gaston is such a chauvinist pig and Herc is trying to be the chivalrous hero. That’s sweet of him, but not necessary here.

I like how Meg is capable of taking care of herself, but also appreciates Hercules’ efforts. Being a modern woman is one thing, but there’s a fine line between being a strong contemporary feminist and being a sassy female jerk.

I understand what you're saying. I'm all for girls going out there and getting their problems solves on their own terms, but nowadays so many so-called modern women get offended at guys who try to be nice and help.
REAL feminist is about bettering women's position in the world, by law and social courtesy, NOT hating men and getting offended at every attempt of them being nice. (tho i do understand that there are guys like gaston....who just flaunts their muscles for show, not chivalry or manner or help.)

Well it's just common curtsy.
Herc sees someone in trouble, he wants to help.
She can take care of it and dosen't need his help.
He dosen't force the matter as she is clearly taking care of it and he dosn't judge her or belittle her opinion by forcing himself in to the fray.
She thanks him for offering to help as helping is a good thing.
Had he forced the issue and belittled her capabilities, She could have sneered at him, but he isn't a jerk and only gallant and so she thanks him for it.
It isn't rocket science.

It may not be rocket science, but a lot of people still overreact in situations like this and tend to over-debate the issue of what it means to be a true feminist and/or chivalry being dead or not.
