Description So I decided to finally recolor/remaster this piece digitally. I think it turned out pretty awesome. But anyway, this is concept art for the Shadow King in GODSPAWN. I did this piece a really long time ago so I'm not sure if this is how they're actually going to look, but I do intend to include the Shadow King in the story...might even include multiple ones, just in different arcs (since there is more than one Shadow King as it's kind of an appointed role). The demon accompanying them is a demonic grimoire. These are basically special grimoires that have demons permanently bound to them, which allows the grimoire to hide its nature at the very least. This particular one is rather powerful (hence the Gehennan flames)and has the ability to speak, shapeshift, and perform various actions on the behest of its master. His nameΒ  for now is Grim (because I'm super clever) and he apparently stole the eye of Sauron.

Funny thing, I think my favorite thing in this work is the hat, the color and brushstrokes are just... awesome! I do like the work that you did on the clothing but the right lapel on the jacket looks a little off with the shading, other than that really good work expecially on the buttons and pants.

The monster is downright devious, I love the single eye (yep, I was wondering why it was not in LOTR where it belonges ) forked tonge (though I think it should be longer and slithery-er, but I am unfamiliar with Godspawn.) Its body is really neat looking and I like the lighting on the back (scales?)Β

Yeah, it looks like it has a wonderfully satiny finish.

When I do work traditionally, it's harder to cover up the mistakes. I know what you're talking about, and it gave me fits but I liked how it looked overall.

I wasn't even thinking of LOTR when I was doing this, but I guess it was hanging out in my subconscious. Perhaps it is true what they say about staring into the abyss... I could see that. Its tongue is actually a bookmark kinda thing (I forget what they are called when they are built into the book), as it is a kind of book creature, but it's complicated. Thanks for the comment!

Yeah, that is what I loves!

Ahh... I thought it was a digital piece, so great job.

and you are welcome.

Oh if you haven't started on my character yet I think I want to change it to a fallen angel, actually being cast from heaven with a bright light shining down (like the sun through the clouds) and in the back ground you just see that their are more of them but not detailed. Make him look afraid for his life, give him a dark overall feel. You can give him what ever features that you like, just keep him in the same style as the girl from Ghosts of My Father, as this will be a sequel called "Children of the Fallen" the final book will be called "Call of the Dominion" just so you know

I can understand the confusion! I put it in the digital category because I modified it a bit digitally. Mainly increased the contrast of the colors and smoothed some of the pixellation that occurred when I scanned--that kind of the thing. I actually colored/shaded it using prismacolor and copic markers on sketch paper.

Alrighty! Send me a note if you would with all the specifics. I tend to lose comments/delete them from my feed without meaning to and it would just be easier to find when I'm ready to get started!

Thank you kindly. I tried to keep some of the texture that I achieved in the traditional version of the piece, because I really liked that effect.

how sweet is the demon! This sauron eye is so funny! and the tongue! It seems that he is saying to his master: "let play for a while"
I love his expression.Β  You have expressed how much he cares for his master.

Yes indeedy, Grim is the playful type, though he can take his shenanigans a bit too far, and you're spot on with how much he cares for the Shadow King (or at least this particular Shadow King). I feel like a bit of a tease, honestly, putting this stuff out there, as it's going to be such a long time before you guys get to meet these characters in GODSPAWN, but I just can't help myself, haha.
