In an Earth a few hundred years in the future, Ivy, 25, lives the sort of cliche "mad scientist" life. She works at a pharmaceutical company working on vaccines by day, and lives in a one-bedroom apartment. However, she has her own personal projects and a lab of her own located underneath her apartment building, inside an old subway terminal. Abandoned due to a revolution in Personal and Group Rapid Transit systems a few decades prior, the terminal was never actually taken off the city's power grid, so it suited Ivy's needs quite well.

Her main goal is to solve the problems of genetic deficiencies, starting with issues such as infertility. Of course, that hasn't stopped her from "playing around" with little side projects such as recreating expansion-inducing formulas made by another woman scientist who came before her.

To help her with these projects, Ivy has a small group of clones that were modified slightly to differentiate them from herself. Even in her time human cloning is outlawed, so she bypassed some of the more stereotypical methods of cloning. Rather than growing her clones in a lab, Ivy made her clones by way of parthenogenesis, and then stimulated rapid maturation with hormone-laced breastmilk.

Her clones are physically and mentally nearly identical to her, which is helpful for getting work done quickly and efficiently. However... It does lead to some very wild situations when one or more of them are feeling experimentative or playful.
